UPDATE: Police issue suspect name for death of Sandy Bay woman
UPDATE: July 3, 2023
Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Services have issued a warrant of arrest for Fantasia Prince, a 26-year-old woman from Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation, in relation to the homicide of a 24-year-old woman that took place on Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation on June 29.
Fantasia Prince is charged with 2nd Degree Murder and has other outstanding warrants for her arrest.
Police looking for suspect after abducted Portage teen located
A 16-year-old female was assaulted and then abducted by an 18-year-old male from a residence in Portage la Prairie. The suspect and victim are known to each other. It happened today (June 30) at about 12:30 a.m.
RCMP stop driver and find 3D printed gun
RCMP conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in a parking lot of a business, just off Highway 59 in the RM of St. Clements. It took place on May 26 at about 2:00 p.m.
During the stop, the officer observed unstamped tobacco in the vehicle and both occupants were arrested. A further search was conducted and the officer found a 3D-printed handgun.

Portage teen assaulted, held at gunpoint, and escaped from man charged earlier in vehicle theft
A report of an assault on 6th St NE in Portage la Prairie caused local RCMP to respond with information that a firearm was involved. It happened this past Friday, May 12, at about 11:45 p.m.
Saturday accidents report no injuries
Portage Professional Firefighters responded to separate motor vehicle collisions at the same time on Saturday, May 13. One was on 13 Hwy and the other at Tupper St N and 7th Ave.
The fire department reports there were no serious injuries.
Drugs & weapons seized in Portage
A search warrant was executed this past Sunday (March 19) in Portage la Prairie under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The residence was located on 6th Street NE and police arrived at about 11:35 p.m.

Willy Wonka BBBS bowling fundraiser rolls a strike
In what used to be an annual affair, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains (BBBS) held their first Bowl for Kids event since COVID-19.
Executive Director Dawn Froese explains that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-themed bowling fundraiser occurred last Sunday, March 12th, at Southport Bowl.
"Those that came out had a wonderful time, and we managed to raise $3420 that would go towards mentoring."
Froese notes, that while numbers were down from the last time, they held a Bowl for Kids event, BBBS is still very grateful for the community.
Large Portage drug bust on Sunday
Portage la Prairie RCMP executed a search warrant and performed a drug seizure this past Sunday. At about 9:00 p.m., Portage RCMP executed the search warrant with the aid of the Emergency Response Team at a residence in Portage. Police found and seized approximately 100 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 28 grams of cocaine, prescription pills, Canadian currency, and other drug paraphernalia.
Five adults, four women, and a man were arrested.
Three women, aged 48, 35, and 31, are facing charges of two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Repeat Portage offenders arrested with weapons & drug charges
Police were in the 5th Avenue NE area of Portage while searching for suspects involved in a robbery nearby. Last Friday, March 3, two suspects were spotted at 2:30 p.m. and were told to stop. They refused and continued into a building.
Officers called for backup and waited when one of the suspects, a woman, left the building, was apprehended, and held for investigation. Dana Dueck, 26-years-old, of Portage la Prairie, was in possession of stolen items and arrested.

Low to moderate flood risk in most Manitoba basins according to first Spring outlook
The Manitoba Hydrologic Forecast Centre reports low to moderate risk of flooding in most Manitoba basins in its February spring flood outlook released Tuesday afternoon. Spring flood risk is largely dependent on weather conditions from now until the spring melt.
