As of 7 a.m., on Friday, October 13, motorists are now able to access the 40th Avenue Interchange to the QEII.

Yesterday, during the official grand opening of the interchange, Devin Dreeshen, the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors said that there are 85,000 vehicles that travel through the area every day, including 7,000 commercial vehicles.

A fog advisory is in effect for Airdrie and the surrounding areas. 

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the fog will continue to develop this morning leading to near-zero visibility, but it is expected to dissipate later in the morning.

"Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations," the advisory added.

The Town of Crossfield has announced that Highway 574, just North of Airdrie will be undergoing an illuminating upgrade. 

"Through collaboration with Transportation and Economic Corridors and Fortis Alberta, the Town of Crossfield is pleased to advise of the upcoming installation of street lighting through the Highway 574 corridor (Limit Avenue)," The Town stated on its website.

The installation of street lighting is estimated to be finished by the end of this fall and will consist of the installation of 26 cobra light standards.

A motor vehicle incident which had been reported to be between Veteran's Boulevard and Yankee Valley Boulevard is now cleared.

Previously, there were reports of heavy delays in the area.

In nine days' time, on the morning of Friday, October 13, the 40th Avenue Interchange to QEII will officially open to the public.

According to The City of Airdrie, the project is a, 'monumental transportation infrastructure project set to transform the region's connectivity and economic prospects.' 

Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors said that the completion of the overpass will significantly improve travel for the thousands of commuters and commercial drivers who rely on this route to get where they need to go safely and efficiently.

There are reports that due to heavy snowfall, there are multiple vehicles spun out on Highway 93 North near Bow Lake in Banff National Park.

Motorists are being asked to delay travel if possible.

A vehicle rollover occurred earlier on Friday in Southeast Calgary on Stoney Trail near 17 Avenue, has been cleared

Beginning on Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. Main Street and 40th Avenue Southwest will be shut down.

As of noon on Friday, October 6, a portion of the TransCanada Highway, east of Golden, British Columbia will be re-opened for traffic for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The extended 24-hour closure which began yesterday, on Monday, September 25 between Golden Donald Upper Road and Yoho Bridge has meant that motorists will have to use the alternate route via Highway 95 and Highway 93S, adding up to 90 minutes of driving time.

In less than a month, the 40th Avenue Overpass is slated to be completed and opened to traffic. However, in the coming weeks, motorists can expect lane closures that will impact the flow of traffic.
