A 42-year-old man has died after a head-on collision involving an SUV and a pick-up truck pulling a cattle trailer on Highway 9, just north of Highway 564.

According to Mounties, Airdrie Rural RCMP were called to the collision at 5:30 p.m. on Monday evening. 

Airdrie Rural RCMP has cleared the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 9, just north of Highway 564.

Previously, police advised motorists that traffic was unable to travel on Highway 9 and was diverted for several hours. 

The RCMP collision reconstructionist team attended the scene.

A devastating motor vehicle collision unfolded on the QEII on the evening of October 23, 2023, near Blackfalds.

Ponoka RCMP was swiftly dispatched to the scene, responding to the incident that occurred in the north-bound lanes of Highway 2, near Township Road 400 in Lacombe County.

Airdrie RCMP is currently on the scene of multiple minor collisions in both directions on the QEII between Airdrie and Calgary.

Airdrie RCMP is advising major delays and is requesting motorists to avoid the area and find alternate routes.

No serious injuries are reported and the collision was attributed to poor winter road conditions.

According to reports, the backroads into Airdrie are just as bad with vehicles in the ditch.

 Didsbury RCMP advises that Highway 2A, between Township Road 320 and 314, is now passable.

The highway was closed earlier due to a school bus rollover.

A few hours ago, RCMP reported that there were nine students, two teachers and the driver on the bus at the time of the collision. Five of those on the bus were transported to various hospitals via ground ambulance for a range of injuries, some considered serious, but not life-threatening.  

Road conditions at the time are believed to be the cause of the collision, however, it is still under investigation.

Innisfail RCMP has issued a timely warning about treacherous road conditions along the QEII Highway and the surrounding area roadways, stretching from Red Deer to Carstairs. While the snow has yet to hit Airdrie, it is falling in Northern and Central Alberta.

If you are going to be headed north today, you may want to delay your trip. This caution comes in response to a series of unfortunate events, with officers having already responded to at least collisions on these routes early this morning.

With the arrival of the first snowfall of the season today and tomorrow, the RCMP is issuing a vital reminder to motorists to exercise extra caution on the roads and adapt their driving habits to the changing weather conditions.

Some drivers are unprepared for the annual transition from the dry pavement of summer to winter driving conditions that can include snow and slush-covered highways, black ice and blizzards.

The first snowfall is a reminder and an opportunity to get prepared for winter driving, which also means preparing our vehicles and adjusting our driving.

Earlier this evening, Airdrie RCMP, along with EMS and the city's fire department responded to a four-vehicle collision in the vicinity of 8th Street and Veterans Boulevard.

Initially, police received information that the multi-vehicle collision involved three cars, but upon arrival, it was found that four cars were involved.

Motorists reported heavy traffic congestion due to lanes being blocked off for some time, earlier on Friday. 

The scene has since been cleared.

As of 7 a.m., on Friday, October 13, motorists are now able to access the 40th Avenue Interchange to the QEII.

Yesterday, during the official grand opening of the interchange, Devin Dreeshen, the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors said that there are 85,000 vehicles that travel through the area every day, including 7,000 commercial vehicles.
