Ottawa man, 31, charged after Parliament Hill lockdown
Police say they've charged a 31-year-old Ottawa man with several offences following an incident that placed an area of Parliament Hill under lockdown on Saturday.
Ottawa police said in a media statement Sunday that a man entered East Block in downtown Ottawa at 2:40 p.m. Saturday and started issuing threats to those inside.
Security officials isolated the man in a security screening area while police evacuated the building, which mostly houses offices for senators and their staff.
Police said the man surrendered peacefully after hours of negotiations.

Red Wings defuse Bombers to take Game 2 in Flin Flon
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings are coming back home with a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven SJHL semifinal series with Flin Flon Bombers, after winning Game 2 in Flin Flon Saturday night.
"I kind of sound like a broken record here, but our guys are just continuing to get better every day," said head coach Cody Mapes after the 4-1 victory. "They're doing a good job to play within themselves, and everybody's just doing their job."

Regina police chief removed from active duty pending complaint investigation
Regina's police chief has been temporarily removed from active duty pending the results of an investigation by the Saskatchewan Public Complaints Commission.
The Regina Board of Police Commissioners says a complaint filed by a community member against Farooq Sheikh is under review.
Chairperson Yashu Bither didn't provide details but says the commission takes the complaint seriously and has a duty to protect public confidence in the police service during the investigation.
Red Wings take first game against Bombers
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings came into Game 1 of the SJHL semi-final series with the Flin Flon Bombers Friday night looking to continue their strong postseason play on the road. Three goals in the first period, and 39 saves by Angelo Zol helped lift the Red Wings to a win to take the first game of the best-of-seven series.
Turbine height amendment advances in Weyburn R.M. amidst project opposition and support
The R.M. of Weyburn No. 67 council met this morning. On the agenda were a number of matters relating to the Seven Stars Energy Project.
Beginning with statements from two R.M. residents outlining their concerns and disproval of the project. The first including a petition with over fifty signatures, and topics addressed include disruptions to the landscape, environmental and wildlife concerns, and potential decreases in property value.

Daytime warmups, nighttime freezes: prepare for slippery conditions
Daytime highs in the plus double digits are expected this weekend thanks to a high-pressure system moving out and a warm push from the west is on its way.
Meteorologist with Environment Canada Stephen Berg said overnight lows being into the double minus digits could make for a true freeze-thaw.
"It might end up getting some pooling on surfaces and then overnight some ice developing and might get a bit slippery in places, so people will have to be careful in certain areas where there's still a fair bit of snow melt going on."
Unemployment down in southeast Saskatchewan
Statistics Canada released the latest Labour Force Survey numbers Friday morning, and while the nation as a whole lost 33,000 jobs in March, southeast Saskatchewan – and the province as a whole – saw an increase in employment.
