Weyburn Mayor urges patience as crews tackle extensive road work

With only a short time left in the construction season, officials from the City of Weyburn are asking for public cooperation and patience as crews continue to address extensive road repairs across the community. 

In a recent interview, Mayor Jeff Richards shared a simple but crucial message for residents navigating the numerous construction zones. 

Carlyle RCMP asking for assistance in locating suspect wanted on warrants

The Carlyle RCMP are asking for the public's assistance in locating 21-year-old Theoren McNabb, who is wanted on multiple warrants. 

According to a release issued Tuesday afternoon, McNabb is wanted by both the Carlyle and Indian Head RCMP detachments for a number of charges, including assault-related offences, failing to comply with release order conditions, and failing to attend court. The charges stem from several investigations in 2024 and 2025.

Alberta is marking 75 years of rat-free status.

An aggressive control program had made it the largest inhabited area in the world that is free of true rats.

There is no resident population of rats, and the rodents are not allowed to establish themselves.

Suspect caught walking highway after theft in Weyburn

A local business called the Weyburn Police Service last week after a man was found to be stealing items. After being confronted, he fled on foot. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says the description provided allowed them to locate the man rather quickly.  

“It's a subject that's been around, causes a few issues here and there, but stole some items from a store. The description gave the members had a pretty good idea who it was, and they did find this individual walking down the highway.” 

Putz, Sonia

Sonia Nettie Putz, late of Tyvan, SK passed away on September 1, 2025 at the age of 75 years.

Sonia was predeceased by her parents, Steve and Mary Short; brother in infancy; and her nephew, Josh Short.

Sonia is survived by her husband, David Menzies; children, Deanna (Brian) Walper and daughter [Amber]; Laurie Menzies (Jason); Derrick (Sandra) Menzies and children [Kade (Shayna), Macey]; her brother Phillip (Susan) Short and daughter, Michale; as well as great nieces and great nephews.

King Street rebuild faces delays, extending road closure into September

King Street has been undergoing a full structural rebuild as part of the province’s urban highway connector program (UHCP). This work has resulted in a full closure of the road between First Avenue Northwest and Fifth Avenue North.   

The construction was scheduled for completion at the end of August, to avoid interruptions to students attending Weyburn Comprehensive School, however, delays have caused the project to be extended.  

Two vehicles totaled in Wednesday traffic collision: WPS

Two vehicles were involved in a traffic accident last Wednesday at the intersection of Government Road and Highway 39. A vehicle heading west on the highway failed to stop at the red light and collided with a vehicle travelling on Government Road.  

The Weyburn Police Service attended the scene of the collision. Deputy Chief Shane St. John says the driver was not paying attention causing them to go through the red light, no other factors were at play.

A revolutionary piece of agricultural technology is making waves in the fields of southern Saskatchewan. The NEXAT, a multi-functional farming system manufactured in Germany, has arrived at Chute Farms Joint Venture at Moose Jaw.

Rhett Chute says NEXAT reached out to them earlier in the summer to see if they would be interested in trying the prototype, and they were able to reach an agreement.

Ottawa sets 100-day timeline to fix CRA call centre delays

The federal finance minister said Tuesday he wants to address service delays at the Canada Revenue Agency within 100 days, even as Ottawa plans spending cuts across the public service.

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne set the timeline in a letter to Liberal MP Karina Gould, chair of the House of Commons finance committee, which was posted to his X account Tuesday morning.

In that letter, he said it's "increasingly apparent" the CRA is not meeting Canadians' standards.
