The 8th and 9th rounds of the Saskatchewan Motocross Association’s season took place in Lloydminster this past weekend, and three riders from Weyburn made the trek for the AB/SK Shootout. They would end up putting together some strong runs during the event, with one rider coming back with a number of podium finishes.  

The Weyburn Soccer Association has partnered up with the Celtic FC from Glasglow, an international soccer club, to host a soccer camp in Weyburn. Jason Roy, president of the Weyburn Soccer Association, says it took a lot of communication to organize, but is an exciting opportunity.  

An initiative has launched in Weyburn called WeyStrong. Its aim is to provide support to women in the community who have been diagnosed with cancer.  

An organizer with WeyStrong, Lisa Vick, began the initiative due to a need she felt in the community.  

China on Tuesday accused Canada of protectionism after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government imposed a 100% tariff on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles, matching U.S. duties on Chinese-made EVs.

During the August 12th meeting of Weyburn City Council, a draft of the 2023 Audited Financial Statement was presented by Director of Finance, Laura Missal. The report has now been officially posted on the City of Weyburn's website.

With tours of historical homes and other buildings, beautiful gardens, a variety of games, food, and live performances, the 2024 Heritage Village Days, held August 9th and 10th, drew a crowd as always - with approximately 3,000 people attending. 

Additionally, more than 35 volunteers helped out over the two days, making the family-favourite annual event a success. 

Heritage Village closed for the season on August 23rd.

Liberals are having some "robust" conversations about the state of their party and its slump in popularity with voters but those talks cannot happen in public, Immigration Minister Marc Miller said Monday.

"The reality is we have to have these conversations behind closed doors," Miller said at the federal cabinet retreat in Halifax.

While it wasn't looking like ticket sales leading up to the big raffle draw for the Weyburn Humane Society's 'Ride for Paws' vehicle raffle of a 2024 GMC Terrain were going to allow the organization to raise a lot of funds, Weyburn did not disappoint.

The winner of the vehicle, Manuel Mejia, who had also purchased a ticket for last year's vehicle raffle, was able to head to Barber Motors after his name was drawn, and he shared his reaction with Discover Weyburn. 

Canada is moving to match the United States with new tariffs on electric vehicles made in China in a bid to keep the cars from getting a significant foothold in the North American market.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau outlined the plan at the federal cabinet retreat in Halifax on Monday, promising to increase import taxes on Chinese-made EVs to 106.1 per cent on Oct. 1, up from 6.1 per cent.

Tariffs on Chinese-made steel and aluminum products will go to 25 per cent on Oct. 15, with a final list of which products will be affected expected Oct. 1.

Today marked the delivery of the first 2024 Grain Rush driven by Great Plains Ford, and we treated Kelly Ashworth and his crew to some delicious KFC in the field just northeast of Tribune.

Ashworth, who is also a cattle farmer, said the grain harvest is rolling along, and they're about halfway there.
