Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop AGM reveals year marked with forward progress
The Weyburn Wor-Kin Shop held their annual general meeting on Monday evening, with a general theme of growth and progress forward.
The meeting opened with the chairperson's report from Lloyd Montgomery, who says their organization’s focus is on providing the best life possible for those that they serve, which is improved through their partnerships with the Group Home Society, and the Ministry of Social Services, both of which had representatives present.
This focus is also centered on their person-centered approach.
Rain, cooler temperatures provide relief in Prairie wildfires, more evacuees go home
Rain and cooler temperatures brought relief to fire-ravaged Manitoba and Saskatchewan Monday, allowing fire bans to be reduced and more evacuees to go home.
The weather helped fire crews get an upper hand in parts of northern Manitoba to clear the way for some of the 21,000 or more evacuees to start returning home.
David Monias, chief of Pimicikamak Cree Nation, reposted video of heavy rainfall on social media along with video of small planes leaving Winnipeg with evacuees who were forced out almost three weeks earlier.
Pride flag raised at Weyburn City Hall
The City of Weyburn officially kicked off Pride Week over the noon hour Monday with a flag raising ceremony at City Hall, celebrating inclusion, visibility, and community.
The event featured remarks from community advocate Rhiannon Benjamin and Weyburn Mayor Jeff Richards, both of whom emphasized the importance of supporting the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, not just during Pride Month, but year-round.
RCMP seek public information on oilfield thefts
The Saskatchewan RCMP issued a crime watch advisory following incidents in the Redvers and Manor areas.
This after several reports of break and enter and thefts at oilfield sites in these areas.

An annual event is making its return this week, showcasing the work and the tools used to accomplish it, of the City of Weyburn’s Public Works Department.
The 4th annual Public Works Open House is coming up on Wednesday, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event is once again being held at the city’s Fleet Storage building on 16th Street.
A league of their own: Midale, Lampman & Bienfait gear up for MLB Cleanup Competition
Sometimes all it takes to keep a community clean is a little competition. Thats how the communities of Midale, Lampman, and Bienfait are organizing their spring cleaning, with the second annual MLB Cleanup Competition.
According to Theresa Biller, the administrator for the Town of Lampman, it was the community of Lampman who first suggested the competition; however, the idea originally belonged to three other communities in the area.
Storms possible in Weyburn area this week
June in Saskatchewan is known for warmth and thunderstorms. So far this month, however, there has been little in the way of thunderstorms in the southeast corner.
Other parts of the province have been getting thunderstorms in recent days. This includes thunderstorms in the central part of the province on Friday and Saturday, both of which spawned tornadoes.
