Classroom of the Month: Visiter la classe de Madame Fafard
Classroom of the Month presented by Canadian Tire continued today at Assiniboia Park Elementary School!
We visited Madame Fafard's French Immersion Class. Fortunately, we didn't need to speak too much French (we did know fromage!!) and had a blast with the kids! We also learned that some of the singers we thought were cool are now out of style and were informed that we should be listening to Kendrick Lamar and Weyburn's own Tenille Arts!
Arson charges laid in isolated incident: WPS
A fire on Sunday in the south part of Weyburn prompted a call to the Weyburn Police Service.
"We were able to quickly put out the fire and also quickly identify a suspect and take that suspect into custody, who was later charged with setting the fire for arson," said Sergeant Riley Ross. "The structure was never lit on fire, but there were some items in the front yard that were lit on fire."

The unique advantage of tomatoes to withstand dry conditions: Sherri Roberts
While most plants need to be planted at the same depth of the packaging, tomatoes are the one exception.
According to local garden guru and Sask Polytech’s Ag and Food Production Program Head Sherri Roberts, everything else brought home from a nursery needs to be planted at the same depth as it is in its container.

Driving support: First annual Curtis Fehr Memorial Golf Tournament tees off for camps
The Macoun Evangelical Missionary Church (MEMC) is hitting the green for a good cause, hosting the first annual Curtis Fehr Memorial Golf Tournament in support of two nearby Bible camps.
The event has been held annually for several years; however, this is the first year the name will honour Curtis Fehr, a significant member of the congregation who passed away tragically last year.
Event organizer and MEMC Pastor Charlie Bowen explains the change was suggested by his wife, Darlene Bowen, because of Fehr and his wife Jessie’s annual dedication to the event.
AGRA violation, public disturbance lands man in cells: WPS
A group of adults in downtown Weyburn after midnight on Saturday, May 24th, was brought to the attention of the Weyburn Police Service.
"We were made aware of a group that was walking in the downtown area, and when our members interacted with them, one of the male adults was found to be in possession of open alcohol. He was issued a ticket under AGRA [the Alcohol and Gaming Regulations Act] for having open liquor in public," said Sergeant Riley Ross.
Later that night, the WPS saw the man again after he had been reported causing a disturbance by yelling in public.
From sheltered to tough: ensuring your nursery plants are ground-ready
With overnight now in the double digits, many gardeners are hoping to get their greenhouse treasures into the ground.
According to local garden guru and Sask Polytech’s Ag and Food Production Program Head Sherri Roberts, the process of 'hardening' can ensure those sheltered plants thrive. She said it's akin to how humans acclimate ourselves to summer, when temperatures get warmer than we are used to experiencing.
