According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture's Weekly Crop Report for July 22nd to 28th, released on Thursday, southeast producers are hoping for continued rain throughout the region to help lessen the impact of the coming heat on their crop yields, aid hayland regrowth, and improve their pasture lands currently supporting livestock.

Some scattered showers were reported, with a few significant events that produced hail throughout week. 

Coronach RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred yesterday in Ogema. At approximately 5:30 p.m., they received a report of a collision at the intersection of Bradley Street and Saskatchewan Avenue.

Officers responded alongside the local fire department and EMS. Upon investigation, it was determined that a vehicle and a child on a bike collided. The child was declared deceased at the scene. He was identified as a boy under the age of ten; his family has been notified. 

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. 

Throughout the summer, Weyburn has seen a number of advisories from Environment and Climate Change Canada for the air quality, primarily due to wildfires burning in northern Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba. The most recent was an air quality warning issued for much of the day Thursday. This warning did raise a few eyebrows around the town, however, as it didn’t appear too bad. In fact, air quality sensors in place in the city showed the AQHI was below 6.  

So, why the warnings? 

Richy Roy has had a number of titles in his entertainment career. Game show host, DJ, and perhaps that who has had the most reach over the years, magician. After spending more than 15 years performing across the country, the skilled illusionist is looking to enter a new phase of his career, moving from the spotlight to more of a mentorship role to help teach up-and-coming magicians not just about the craft, but the business of it as well.  

John “Johnny” Moryski peacefully went to sleep on July 29, 2025, at the age of 82 years.

He lived and farmed his entire life at Tyvan, SK. John’s family remembers his deep dedication to farming and his care for the land he called his home.

John carried with him a quiet hope for a better world and the comfort of being reunited with loved ones. That hope remained with him until his final breath.

An April 2024 third-party assessment of 12 facilities owned by the City of Weyburn determined there were five buildings in need of roof replacement.

Of those, the roof of the Weyburn Police Service Headquarters was the highest priority for replacement this year. 

The move is part of the Canola Council of Canada's new strategic framework, 'Canola Forward: A Strategic Framework for 2025-2030.'

The news came in a press release announcing the new framework. Chris Davison, president & CEO, says the framework is focused on priorities identified by the Canadian canola industry and is aligned to help the industry seize emerging opportunities while navigating changing industry and trade dynamics.

August long weekend is upon us, with a statutory holiday on Monday in honour of Saskatchewan Day. This weekend is a jam-packed weekend here in the southeast, with families having their pick of events from which to choose, amid what is likely to be perfect weather.

We the family of Irene Guest, are saddened to announce her passing on July 29, 2025 in Weyburn, SK at the age of 92 years old. Her life was centered around her family, and she poured her heart into every moment spent caring for and supporting those she loved. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Irene was predeceased by her husband, Earl Guest; her parents, Matilda Gertrude Slater and Joseph Alec Slater; brothers and sister: Melvin, Leonard, Albert, Dorothy, Norman; son, Dean Guest; grandchildren, Janis Guest and Michael Guest.

Weyburn is celebrating local history as Heritage Village Days return. The event-packed weekend promises a variety of sights, vendors, and activities for the whole family.  

Summer staff member and tour coordinator at the Heritage Village, Rio Lopez, says that all of the village buildings will be open for people to tour alongside the events and performances.
