Southeast Advocates will present a new story-telling series for children: 'Here's My Story', at the Weyburn Public Library beginning on Wednesday, May 28th at 4 p.m. The first speaker is Monika Sharma, who moved with her family to Weyburn from northern India nearly two years ago.
Sharma will share about her cultural heritage, and while she practices the Hindu religion, the presentation will be cultural, focusing on festivals, food, clothes, and the celebrations she grew up enjoying in India.

Canada Post union calls for halt to overtime as deadline passes with no agreement
The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees has called for a countrywide halt to overtime work, saying its negotiators will continue to review the latest contract offers from the mail carrier.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers said late Thursday that members were being told to refuse any work beyond eight hours in a day and 40 hours in a week.
Over $194 Million in Funding Secured for University of Saskatchewan’s Veterinary College
The University of Saskatchewan’s Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) has secured over $194 million in funding, to be delivered over the next five years. This renewed interprovincial funding commitment from Manitoba, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan has been in place for over 60 years.
Through the agreement, WCVM provides essential veterinary medicine programming, research, and clinical services to meet the needs of each province. Saskatchewan and Manitoba each have 25 student seats, while British Columbia funds 40 seats.

Bargain hunters get ready: Midale's Town-wide garage sale goes Saturday
The town of Midale will host the Town-Wide Garage Sale and Street Market this Saturday, May 24th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In addition to garage sales being set up at residences around town, for which maps are available, there will also be a Market on Main Street featuring local vendors and handmade goods beginning at 10 a.m.
The kids can on the bouncy castles, enjoy some face painting, and cool off with snow cones at Youngren Park. There will also be a fundraising barbecue lunch for the Midale Pool in both Midale and Macoun.
Rain delays seeding operations in southeast Saskatchewan
As farmers continue their seeding operations, the latest crop report brings a mix of optimism and caution.
Crop Extension Specialist Tyce Masich says at this point 72 per cent of the provincial crop is now planted; that's an increase of 23 per cent from last week.
He notes it's a smaller increase than the week before, largely due to rain delays in parts of the south and east regions of the province.
'You're responsible for your property': WPS remind of City yard maintenance bylaw
In the Weekly Police Report from the Weyburn Police Service, a reminder was issued for the Property Maintenance and Nuisance Abatement Bylaw, which covers residents ensuring their yards comply with being kept clean and clear of garbage, junked vehicles, and dismantled machinery, excessive/dead weeds, grass or trees, as well as sharp or dangerous materials.

Despite rain, southeast producers make seeding progress
Despite widespread rainfall over the past week, producers in southeast Saskatchewan have made steady progress with spring seeding. According to the latest crop report from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, 63 per cent of crops have been seeded in the region, slightly behind the provincial average of 72 per cent, but ahead of the five-year regional average of 58 per cent.
Weyburn police arrest man after incident on Sixth Ave SW
A major police presence in Weyburn’s southwest area Wednesday afternoon was the result of what the Weyburn Police Service described as a high-risk situation involving serious threats to public safety.
During the afternoon, officers responded to a call involving a man who had made alarming threats.
“The individual who made the call made some serious threats that made us concerned for that individual's safety, some other individual's safety, and then also the public's safety,” explained Sergeant Riley Ross with the Weyburn Police Service.
