Irrican owns multiple hydroelectric facilities and solar sites
A new battery storage facility is helping power two southern Alberta irrigation districts.
Irrican Power, a renewable energy producer, comprised of the St. Mary River Irrigation District and Raymond Irrigation District, has announced the commissioning of the Raymond Enhanced Battery and Renewables Project.
The eBAR facility is located at the Raymond Irrican Hydropower Plant near Raymond.
Police deal with well-being checks, intoxicated individuals
Last week saw a higher-than-average volume of calls for the Weyburn Police Service, but a fair amount was all connected to similar, but not identical, circumstances. Of the 147 calls for service in the week of June 23rd to June 30th, more than 10 per cent of the calls were connected to concerns about mental health, well-being checks, and individuals who were intoxicated.
Saskatchewan considers AgriRecovery request in bovine tuberculosis case
The move by Sask. would help producers with the cost of cleaning and disinfection after the disease is found on their farms
Saskatchewan may ask to trigger AgriRecovery for producers affected by bovine tuberculosis.
Provincial agriculture minister Daryl Harrison said last week he had heard from cattle organizations about the need for more help.
North West Terminal continues to sit idle
A founding shareholder questions why the board approved raises for executives while the terminal incurred $28 million in cumulative losses since 2016
North West Terminal Ltd. is being tight-lipped about what is happening with the idled grain company.
The firm held its annual general meeting on June 18, but chief executive officer Jason Skinner refused to divulge what was discussed at the AGM.
“We’ll just go no comment because we’re in negotiations on some things,” he said.
Mann brothers settle differences
Two brothers embroiled in an eight-year-long bitter legal battle over control of a generic crop input business have “buried the hatchet.”
Jim and Jason Mann have agreed to end litigation against one another and the businesses they run, which are Farmers of North America (FNA) and AgraCity Crop & Nutrition Ltd.
“The news of the day is the Mann vs. Mann is ending and Jim and I are burying the hatchet,” said Jason.

Summer has arrived in full force across southeast Saskatchewan, with temperatures this week soaring into the low 30s and humidex values making it feel even hotter. Residents are being reminded to take precautions through the short but intense stretch of heat.

The Weyburn Chamber of Commerce will host the 30th annual Summer Parade tomorrow, July 3rd, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Due to the construction of the hospital, some route changes were implemented for the summer parade last year, beginning now from the corner of Fifth Avenue and Fifth Street on the north side of Weyburn (see the map below).
Ghost hunting at Heritage Village back by popular demand
Back by popular demand, the City of Weyburn will welcome Canadian Paranormal Expeditions to Weyburn's Heritage Village on July 19th for the second annual Paranormal Investigation.
Leisure Services Manager for the City of Weyburn, Amanda Wallace, said this year's event will include four time slots.
Caldwell, Karen Roselle
Karen Roselle Caldwell late of Weyburn, SK passed away June 30, 2025 at the age of 86 years.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, Harrison and Marguerite Arnold; husband, Allan Caldwell; granddaughter, Rebecca Irving; brother, Lorne Arnold; sister, Diona Workman.
O’Brien, Gregory Joseph
Gregory Joseph O’Brien late of Weyburn, SK passed away June 26, 2025 at the age of 74 years.
Gregory was predeceased by his parents and his precious wife, Esther.
Gregory is survived by his daughter, Deedee and his favorite son in law, Bill Ottman; grandchildren, Adam and Tracy (Holly).
As per Gregory’s request, cremation has taken place.
Interment will take place at a later date in South Dakota.
