Red Wings light up the net in Nipawin
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings had a rocky start to the 2024-25 season. Since those four games, though, the Red Wings have been on a tear, and they continued their winning streak Wednesday night in Nipawin. Thanks in part to a hat trick from Lucas Schmid, Weyburn extended the streak to five games with a 9-1 win over the Hawks.
"We kind of had a feeling going into the game; our energy was pretty good," Red Wings head coach Cody Mapes said after the game. "(The) boys were excited to get back at it here. I thought our habits were pretty good throughout the night."
Hat tricks power Red Wings to victory over Terriers
Thanks to hat tricks from Ethan Dekay and Jaxson Ruthven, the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings extended their winning streak to four games Saturday night. They moved back up to .500 on the season as they defeated the Yorkton Terriers 6-4.
"We've talked about winning season series within our division, and tonight was a big step in the right direction for that," said head coach Cody Mapes after the game. The Terriers had won the first two meetings of the season between the two clubs, with the win Saturday night being the first Wings victory over Yorkton on the season.
Red Wings put Hounds in the dog house in Assiniboia
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to extend their winning streak to three games Friday night when they took on the Notre Dame Hounds in Assiniboia. They would extend the streak, thanks to a hat trick by Liam Fitzgerald in the first period, and a lot of offense from all the lines, as they skated to a 7-1 win.
"Fitzy's been good," head coach Cody Mapes said after the game. "He's got a scoring knack like that."
With the three goals Fitzgerald now leads the team with 12 points on the season.
Ruthven's return sparks offensive explosion for Red Wings
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to make it two wins in a row when they travelled to Melville to play the Millionaires Tuesday night. The Wings would take an early lead, and not look back, as they tripled the Millionaires 6-2, handing Melville their first loss in regulation for the season.
Red Wings' offensive explosion buries Nipawin
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings had been waiting for the goals to come through the first four games of the season. Saturday night, they did come, in spades, as they tripled the Nipawin Hawks 6-2 at Crescent Point Place.
Red Wings' early lead fizzles out as Bombers rally
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to bounce back from their 0-3 start Friday night as the Flin Flon Bombers came to town. Weyburn would jump out to lead in the first period, but the Bombers rallied, scoring four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 victory.
"The puck's not going in the net, but I do like a lot of the things that are going on," said head coach Cody Mapes after the game. "We've just got to find a way to make sure the puck's going in the net more often than they go in ours, and right now, that's not happening."

The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings have been working to bolster the lineup this week, with a number of additions to the roster. Not all of the players coming in are necessarily new faces, however.

It was rumoured to be a possibility before the SJHL season started. Two of the top forwards from the 2023-24 season, Jerome Maharaj and Jaxon Ruthven, would be coming back to the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings. In the offseason, Maharaj went to the Langley Rivermen of the BCHL, while Ruthven went south of the border and joined the Aberdeen Wings of the NAHL.
Wednesday afternoon, the Red Wings made the announcement - the pair were coming back to The Opportunity City.
Red Wings fall short in home-opener despite strong start
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings took a first period lead in their home opener with the Yorkton Terriers Sunday afternoon, but the visitors were keen to spoil the party, with the Terriers rallying back to escape Crescent Point Place with a 5-3 win.
The loss at home comes after the Terriers skated to a 6-1 win over the Red Wings in the season opener in Yorkton Friday night.
Red Wings hit the ice tonight, new voice calls the action
The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings will open up their season tonight in Yorkton, taking on the Terriers in a Viterra Division matchup. Once again, you will be able to listen to all of the Red Wings games on Red Wing Radio, Country 106.7.
However, this year, there will be a new voice calling the games, as Dylan Fiessel makes his debut in the booth.
