Fort Lanes window smashed

Fort Lanes was a victim of vandalism on Friday (Oct. 28). 

RCMP say that they received a report just after 3 p.m. that an object was thrown through the front window at Fort Lanes. 

Police investigated and reported no object was found and that they believe the vandalism took place sometime between 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

No surveillance footage of the incident was available and RCMP is asking anybody with information to contact the Fort Saskatchewan detachment at 780-997-7900

More emphasis is being put on agricultural programming

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) is expanding its agricultural programming for 2023.

Applications are now being accepted for the new Bachelor of Science in Food Industry Management degree.

Students can enter the BSc in Food Industry Management program directly from high school or transfer in from another post-secondary program. 

Classes will begin in September 2023 and will cover food science, agri-food economics, food management practices, and food industry policy.

This simply named Haunted House is open from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The tour features only animatronics -- no costumed actors. Admission is free but they do accept food bank donations.

Multiple speed limit changes in Strathcona County

People driving in Strathcona County should keep an eye on their speed. 

The county recently passed a bylaw that has changed multiple speed limits on several rural roads

Each road has seen its speed limit decrease. 

Range Road 205 south of Township Road 515 will now be 50 km/h, down from its previous limit of 80 km/h. 

Ryan Anders, manager of planning, engineering and safety with the county, says this is due to low traffic on the road. 

CN Rail sets new record for Western Canadian Grain Movement

CN Rail recording its best week ever for grain movement.  

CN moving over 806,000 metric tonnes of grain from Western Canada during the week of October 16th.

That exceeds its previous record by over 50,000 metric tonnes. 

The record also comes on the heels of CN’s second best September ever for grain movement from Western Canada, with over 2.64 million metric tonnes moved.

Survey suggests 20% of Canadians skipping meals to cut down on food costs

Laurie O'Connor says more people in Saskatoon are struggling to get food for themselves and their families as prices in grocery stores rise out of reach.

"We are definitely seeing an increase and have been noticing that since January," said O’Connor, executive director of the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre.

The majority of respondents in a Canada-wide survey released Monday said they are using coupons or hunting for sales to cope with increasing food costs. Nearly 20 per cent were also reducing meal sizes or skipping meals altogether in order to save money.

Canadian among injured in crowd surge that killed more than 150 in South Korea

A Canadian was among those injured in a crowd surge that killed more than 150 people in Seoul, South Korea, Global Affairs confirmed Sunday, while Korean Canadians said they were shocked by the disaster.

The federal department said Canadian officials are in touch with local authorities to gather more information and provide consular assistance to those affected. 

It said it can't release any further information about the person who was hurt, including whether the person was hospitalized or the severity of the injuries, due to privacy considerations.

Emergencies Act inquiry to hear from 'Freedom Convoy' protest organizers this week

It was a scene of chaos and confusion in the upper tiers of the police service and local government when a convoy of big rigs and protesters arrived in Ottawa to demand an end to pandemic restrictions last winter. 

That's the picture witnesses have painted over the first couple of weeks of hearings at the Public Order Emergency Commission, which is investigating the federal government's use of the Emergencies Act in February to bring an end to the weeks-long demonstration. 

Music video filmed in downtown Fort Saskatchewan

Dozens of people were gathered outside The Bears Den on 102 Street Thursday night (Oct. 27) for a music video shoot.

The music video was for Innocent, an upcoming song from the Edmonton-based electro-party rock band RC Sindicate. The band has been around for years, opening up for acts like Nickelback.

The director of the music video, Peter McGie also stars in the Halloween-themed music video as a zombie.

"We have some paid actors, some of my daughter's friends to play the kids, and friends of friends," McGie said.

Flames burned 3-2 at home by Oilers comeback

The Edmonton Oilers showed once again on Saturday night that even when they get down, they're never out of it.

Zach Hyman scored twice, including the game winner, and Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists as Edmonton scored twice in the third to pull out a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.

“We’re one of the teams out there that can come from behind. We have enough skill and our ability to score goals, we’re confident in that,” said Hyman.
