Update provided on potential flood conditions

Data continues to be crunched from the significant rain event that's now making its way through the Eastern Slopes, and Albertans are being encouraged to download the government's Alberta Rivers app to monitor the latest updates.

Environment and Parks minister Jason Nixon says no evacuation orders have been issued yet due to potential flood conditions being faced from Red Deer south.

How much rain will we get this week in Fort Saskatchewan?

Significant rainfall is expected this week in Fort Saskatchewan and the immediate area.

The experts for calling for upwards of 50 millimeters total.

About 30 millimeters of rain is forecasted to fall over the next few days according to Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. 

“Looks like there may be some thunder showers for Friday,” added Lang “Maybe another 10 to 20 millimeters [to come] out of that.”

RCMP release sketch of man who allegedly exposed himself to young girls

Police are looking for a suspect they say may have exposed himself to a group of young girls. 

The suspect allegedly conducted the indecent act on April 19 around 6 p.m. while he was exiting the change room at the Salto Gymnastics Club in Sherwood Park.

Strathcona County RCMP describe the suspect as a Caucasian man in his 60s, about 6'0" with white hair and a heavier set build. 

The man was last seen wearing a grey baseball cap, a grey hoodie (with a blue and orange circular design) and worn blue jeans.

Internationally renowned band to perform at Canada Day concert

Fort Saskatchewan’s Canada Day concert will feature a major name in the music industry.

This year's headliner is the internationally acclaimed Toronto-based rock band, The Strumbellas. Formed in 2008, the band gained international attention in 2016 for their single, Spirits, which topped the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and earned them a JUNO award for Single of the Year. Spirits has since been 3x certified platinum in Canada and Italy.  

Pilot project allows tow trucks to use blue lights

Tow truck drivers in Alberta are getting something they've been asking for, for quite a while now.

The province is rolling out a pilot project that will allow tow trucks to have blue lights on their vehicles.

It's meant to enhance visibility while they work along the side of the road, sometimes in harsh conditions, like fog, snow or heavy rain.

The government is considering expanding the project to include snowplows this fall.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau again tests positive for COVID-19

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time.

"I feel OK, but that’s because I got my shots," Trudeau said Monday on Twitter.

"So, if you haven’t, get vaccinated — and if you can, get boosted. Let’s protect our health-care system, each other, and ourselves."

Trudeau said he will be following public health guidelines and isolating.

He was scheduled to appear at a garden party for Liberal party donors in Ottawa on Monday evening.

Number of Canadian blood donors plummets to lowest point in a decade during COVID-19

Canadian Blood Services says it is struggling to replenish a critically low national supply caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The organization says the virus that has persisted since March 2020 has resulted in the smallest donor base in a decade.

"The number of people across Canada who donate regularly has decreased by 31,000 donors since the start of the pandemic, which has put a strain on the existing donor community," said Rick Prinzen, chief supply chain officer and vice-president of donor relations for Canadian Blood Services.
