Local dealership notes a change in consumer habits amid high gas prices
Many consumers are rethinking their vehicle options due to the sky-high price at the pump.
Staff at South Fort Chevrolet say they’ve had an influx of customers looking to swap their gas-fueled vehicles for electric options, but a lack of inventory has caused some issues.
“That’s the issue with getting any vehicle, is that there’s almost no stock on anything,” explained Aaron McWhirter, social media manager at South Fort Chevrolet. “Especially with electric vehicles, the lead time is probably six months.”

More dreary weather is on the way for the Fort Saskatchewan area.

Police issue another plea for assistance in solving hit-and-run death
Morinville RCMP is again asking the public for help in solving the death of an Edmonton teenager.
Angel Cardinal, 19, was killed in a hit-and-run on Highway 28 in the early morning hours of Feb. 26 earlier this year. Reports of the incident came in at 5:22 a.m. from an unknown man using a phone calling app.
Family described Cardinal, a mother of two, as "a bright, beautiful soul, with a contagious smile and laughter, gentle eyes, and a giving heart."
Man facing 50 charges after police chase, stolen guns recovered
A man is facing a long list of charges after getting busted with stolen guns and leading police on a short chase.
On June 7, Boyle RCMP received a complaint about a man carrying a gun -- police say he fired a shot at a closed gas station before taking off.
Shortly after, the Redwater RCMP saw a vehicle matching the description and tried to pull it over. The vehicle then sped off leading RCMP on a pursuit.

Redwater RCMP held 'Coffee with a Cop' to get to know the community better
Redwater RCMP is making an effort to get to know the people they serve better.
On June 8, 'Coffee with a Cop' was held at the Redwater Legion. The goal of the event was to discuss concerns and share ideas about law enforcement in the community.
"It went alright. There wasn't a huge turnout, but the people that did come were concerned community members that had a lot of good questions," said Jeff Sehn, detachment commander for the Redwater RCMP.
All sports fields closed on Tuesday
As the rain pours down over Fort Saskatchewan, the city has closed its sports fields.
The temporary closure was made after the wind and rain rendered the field's conditions unplayable.
"When we get this much volume of rain, the sports fields become a safety hazard," said Jenelle Hart, parks services manager with The City of Fort Saskatchewan. "Players can slip and slide on the surface, potentially causing injury [to themselves], and damage to the field."

Sherwood Park’s Kaiden Guhle has been named the 2022 WHL Playoffs Most Valuable Player.
The Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman and Montreal Canadiens prospect finished the post-season with eight goals, the most by an Oil Kings defenceman during a single playoff campaign.
Guhle scored the insurance goal in the second period of Monday’s (June 13) Game 6 win against the Seattle Thunderbirds, resulting in the Oil King’s taking the WHL title.
The 20-year-old was traded from the Prince Albert Raiders in December.
Highlights from the 2022 Strathcona County Awards of Excellence
The Strathcona County Awards of Excellence celebrated outstanding community members.
The event took place Monday (Jun. 13) evening at Festival Place in Sherwood Park.
Guests got to enjoy a catered dinner before entering the auditorium. Upon entering, pianist Terry Jordan played as the seats filled up.
Award winners and presenters were led into the auditorium by Bridgette Hardy-Crytes on the bagpipes.
Shortly after everyone was seated, local musician Samantha Wiltzen performed O’Canada and an original song performed on the ukulele.
