A Strathcona County firefighter/paramedic has travelled abroad to help those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
Marc Pavan joined GlobalMedic over 10 years ago, back when they were responding to the earthquake in Haiti. At the time, he was a fairly new paramedic.
Now, he is in Europe to help Ukrainian refugees.

Fort Saskatchewan mother forms suicide survivors support group
A Fort Saskatchewan mother is using her pain to help others in the community.
After losing her son, Justin, to suicide fourteen years ago, Maureen Pilkington wants to support others and bring light to a topic often left in the dark. Pilkington is forming a weekly suicide support group which will meet Thursday afternoons at the Fort Saskatchewan Legion.
The federal budget will have the support of the NDP, but will also face opposition
The Liberals have done enough to honour their agreement with the NDP, but that doesn't mean the federal budget will pass without opposition.
"We still have critiques and criticisms," NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said Thursday. "We're concerned, deeply concerned, about the approach on the environment."
He said the government should be spending more on clean energy instead of giving subsidies to fossil fuel companies.
The leaders of the Green party and Bloc Québécois echoed that.
Alberta expands fourth dose, Paxlovid eligibility
Alberta's government says we will see an increase in COVID-19 cases in the coming weeks.
The Omicron subvariant BA.2 now makes up about 80 per cent of new cases in the province, bringing the potential for increased transmission and hospitalizations. Alberta's positivity rate saw a slight increase, up to 26.3 per cent from last week's rate of 24.5 per cent.
"We're monitoring it closely," said Health Minister Jason Copping.

Ecole Parc Elementaire partners with city to run compost program
A group of Grade 4 students at Ecole Parc Elementaire are contributing to a better environment through their composting program.
The Alberta Curriculum for Grade 4 covers an environmental unit that includes waste management. Several students in Alain Levesque's class formed a compost team that manages a program that includes presenting the dos and don'ts of composting to each classroom in the school.
VIDEO: Dayton dances to the next level
Fort Saskatchewan's Dayton Paradis of the Itty Bitty Crew impressed the crowd and judges on Canada's Got Talent. So much so, that they received the approval of four out of four judges on the popular TV Show.
Dayton took some time out of his busy dancing and school schedule to catch up with JP on The MIX Morning Grind.
He gave insight into how he started in dance, the formation of his group with Ayden and Ethan, and what the experience on the show was like.

Street sweeping starts Sunday for Strathcona County
Strathcona County is about to begin spring cleanup on its roads.
Sweepers will work in residential areas during the day and on main and arterial roads at night, starting Sunday (Apr. 10). It's expected to take five weeks to clean all the streets.
Signs will be posted at least 24 hours before sweepers begin working in each neighbourhood.
Residents are asked to sweep their driveways in advance, clear the roads of obstacles like curb ramps and remove vehicles. Failure to do so can result in a fine and the vehicle being towed.
Speed limits in Fort Saskatchewan to change May 16
Some speed limits are going up and others are going down next month.
On May 16, some speed limits on Fort Saskatchewan city streets will change to align with the city's commitment to Vision Zero. The changes include reducing speeds on unmarked residential roads and some collector roads to 40 km/hr.
Some roads will increase to 60 km/hr and Highway 15 from east of 119 Street to the city limits will increase to 80 km/hr.
