Police give information on hold and secure at St. André Bessette

The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is now able to give more information about an incident at a local high school.

On Feb.25, St. André Bessette was placed under hold and secure toward the end of the school day. 

According to RCMP Constable Lauren Mowbray, officers were in the area attempting to locate a person to confirm their well-being.

"There was no concern for safety."

Fort Saskatchewan man buying motorcycle with recent lottery win

A Fort Saskatchewan man has a plan for his recent lottery win. 

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation says Reginald Reardon won $156,195 on a Lotto 6/49 draw.

Reardon purchased his winning ticket at the Fort Saskatchewan Shell on Town Crest Road. He returned to the store a couple of weeks after the draw to check his ticket.

“I scanned the ticket at the store and couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said. “Whoever sees the video of me figuring out the amount I won is going to have a good laugh.”

Trucker in Humboldt Broncos bus crash loses first bid to stay in Canada

A former truck driver who caused the deadly Humboldt Broncos bus crash has lost a first step in his effort to stay in Canada.

Jaskirat Singh Sidhu tried to make the case to the Canada Border Services Agency to stay in the country after serving his prison sentence.

His lawyer, Michael Greene, says that the agency has rejected Sidhu's submission, and his client is "devastated."

Canada Border Services referred questions to Immigration Canada.

Police investigating after boat mysteriously appears on rural Sturgeon County property

Police are looking into a strange incident in Sturgeon County.

On Feb.7, the RCMP got a call from a property owner outside of Redwater -- they told officers that they'd discovered a boat on their rural property near Highway 644 and Range Road 214.

The owner had no idea where the boat had come from, as there are no bodies of water or waterways in the general area.

After checking their database and determining that the boat had not been reported stolen, the boat was seized by police.

City releases snow clearing schedule for Fort Saskatchewan

Another round of residential snow clearing in Fort Saskatchewan has started.

On Wednesday (Mar.9), crews were out clearing the streets, beginning in the neighbourhoods around Cranberry Bend.

No parking signs will be put up to let people know when they will have to move their vehicles. Crews will start plowing at 7:30 a.m. on the designated day, going through the area until they are finished.

Anyone that doesn't move their vehicles before the snowplows come through could face a $100 fine and have their vehicle towed.

Crews should be wrapping up by Mar.22.
