Update: Highway 21 collision cleared
Emergency crews were on the scene of a collision on Highway 21 this morning.
Strathcona County RCMP says that a single vehicle in the northbound lanes of the highway collided with a deer near Township Road 540 just after 7 a.m.
The sole woman driving the vehicle sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
Emergency crews have successfully cleared the area.
RCMP looking for victims of alleged serial fraudster from Fort Saskatchewan
The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP is asking victims to come forward after a man was arrested for several fraud-related crimes.
Taylor Berezowski, 22, is being investigated for multiple Facebook and Kijiji scams around the area in early March.
So far, Berezowski is charged with fraud-related crimes in Fort Saskatchewan, Edmonton, and Vermillion. However, it appears the incidents involve significantly more people, including many outside of the province.
Meet the chilli king of Bruderheim
It was a chilli weekend in Bruderheim!
The Bruderheim Community Church held its annual chilli cookoff on Sunday (Mar. 26).
This free event featured residents of the town cooking up their pots of chilli, reviewed by a panel of judges.
Of all the chilli pots, the gold medal was handed to Cody Bartz. Originally Bartz would just make chilli for his family, but once his church started their friendly competition, he was enthusiastic to join.
Road closure near Ardrossan began with Edmonton police chase
More details have come out surrounding the road closure near Ardrossan on Monday (Mar. 27) afternoon.
Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle near 119 Avenue and 35 Street. Upon arrival, police say they noticed a blue Dodge minivan leaving the area with a mismatched license plate.
Officers report that they began covertly following the vehicle as it headed towards the Yellowhead overpass. While stopped at a red light, the minivan reportedly made a sudden U-turn, which ended up striking an unmarked police vehicle.
Cattle producers see strong prices in Q1
2023 has seen some positive movement in market prices for the cattle sector.
Anne Wasko, a cattle market analyst with Gateway Livestock, says cattle producers have seen some record movement in prices for fat cattle this year setting a new all-time record high for fat cattle in Western Canada breaking the previous 2015 high.
She says the gains the industry has seen are long overdue, noting that in 2022 prices in Western Canada were well off the mark compared to the U.S.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland's 2023 federal budget promises "transformative investments" in Canada's green economy as the country tries to maintain its place in the global clean tech revolution and realign its supply chains toward allies who won't use energy as a political weapon.
"Together these two great shifts represent the most significant opportunity for Canadian workers in the lifetime of anyone here today," Freeland said Tuesday in the House of Commons, according to her prepared remarks.

U17 AAA Rangers off to provincial championships
So far, so good for the U17 AAA South Fort Chev Rangers this playoff run.
The team has enjoyed a perfect stretch of games through the first two rounds of playoffs to punch their ticket to the U17 AAA provincial tournament.
Their latest victory came in the form of a two-game sweep over the MLAC Leafs. The Rangers won the best-of-three series with a pair of 8-2 and 6-1 wins.
Rhyd Semeniuk leads both the team and league in playoff scoring with a stunning 11 points in just four games. Evin Bossel is right behind with 10 points during the same stretch.
CCA elects new leadership team
The Canadian Cattle Association held their Annual General Meeting in Ottawa last week.
During the event they discussed a number of key issues from proposed changes to traceability regulations, to trade, animal welfare and the need for further enhancements to business risk management programs.
A new leadership team for 2023-24 was also elected with Nathan Phinney of New Brunswick named as President, and Tyler Fulton of Manitoba as Vice-President.
