Cochrane Fusion sweep regional qualifier, advance to provincials

The U15 Cochrane Fusion are heading to the softball provincial championships after going undefeated in their qualifier over the weekend.

Fresh off their Division 3 Calgary City Championship win, the Fusion battled through a double knockout regional tournament, defeating Sundre and Drumheller to punch their ticket to provincials.

Ponoka Storm set to face global competition in Portugal

A youth soccer team from Ponoka is headed overseas to compete in one of the largest international tournaments in the world.

The Ponoka Storm U15 girls’ team is travelling to Estoril, Portugal, to take part in the prestigious IberCup tournament from June 30 to July 6.

The team will play its first matches on Canada Day, facing off against opponents from around the globe.

The roster includes talented athletes from Ponoka, Lacombe, Stettler, Red Deer, Rocky Mountain House and Camrose — all proudly representing their central Alberta communities on the world stage.

Energy City Exposure Showcase at Nickle Lake considered a success

This past weekend saw the fourth annual Energy City Exposure Showcase deliver its most ambitious and successful event yet at Nickle Lake Regional Park. The three-day showcase brought together softball players from across the Prairies for a weekend of skill development, games, and face time with college scouts.

The Miller Express will take today off before hitting Ross Wells Park for a Canada Day showdown against the Swift Current 57's.

Moose Jaw Warriors forward Lynden Lakovic is off to Washington. He was selected by the Capitals in the first round, 27th overall, of this year's NHL Entry Draft.

Roughriders running attack, defense spark big win against BC

The Saskatchewan Roughriders head into their first bye week of the season with a perfect 4-0 record. Led by backup quarterback Jake Maier, the Riders leaned on a powerful run game and key defensive turnovers to earn a 37-18 home win over the BC Lions on Saturday.

Early drives only resulted in field goals as the Riders took a 6-0 lead into the second quarter, answered quickly by the Lions as a 15-yard touchdown catch by Keon Hatcher led to the Lions going up 7-6.

Keaton Belsher shines at CFC Prospect Game

Keaton Belsher, a standout receiver for the Central Cyclones, has been recognized for his exceptional performance at the CFC Prospect Game.

In February, Belsher participated in the Canadian Football Chat (CFC) Prospect Game tryouts at the Yara Center in Moose Jaw. This event was part of the CFC Evaluation Tour, which included various combine-style tests such as the 40-yard dash, shuttle run, vertical jump, and broad jump.
