HTA Knights, Foothills Falcons open seasons at home tonight

High school football returns to Okotoks today (Aug. 22).

The Holy Trinity Academy Knights and Foothills Falcons are both set to host their home openers.

HTA welcomes the Jasper Place Rebels at 6 p.m., while the Falcons host Lethbridge Collegiate Institute at 7 p.m.

The two local varsity teams will meet in six weeks, with the Battle of Okotoks set for Oct. 10 on the Falcons' turf.

Swift Current's Foster blanks N.L. at Canada Summer Games

Lacrosse 

Swift Current's Kai Foster made 10 saves and posted a shutout Thursday afternoon, helping Team Saskatchewan to a perfect record in pool play at the Canada Summer Games in St. John's, Newfoundland.

Saskatchewan knocked off host Newfoundland & Labrador 7-0 to finish atop of Pool A at 4-0.

Foster and Saskatchewan will play 2-2 British Columbia in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon.

Swift Current team wins silver medal at pickleball nationals

A doubles team from Swift Current has medaled at the national pickleball championships.

Brad Boutilier and Devin Martens earned a silver medal on Tuesday afternoon in the men's doubles 30 and above category at the Winnipeg's 2025 Myoflex National Championship.

Boutilier said they were pleasantly surprised with their performance and thrilled to be on the podium holding the Saskatchewan flag.

Winnipeg is preparing to host the Canadian Elite Basketball League Championship Weekend, CW25, and 10,000 people are expected to attend the festivities Downtown.

The weekend will kick off with a free street festival with activities for all ages. There will be several musical performances by local and national artists, food trucks, a market, and three-on-three basketball before the on-court action begins.

The Eastern Conference Final is on August 22 at 5 p.m. with a battle between the Scarborough Shooting Stars and Niagara River Lions at the Canada Life Centre.

A Royal presence at the National Championships in Regina

Even though the  Marysburg Royals season came to an end earlier this week, players from the squad will be playing in Regina this weekend in the Men's National Baseball Championships.

Six members of the Royals have joined Team Saskatchewan: Curtis Strueby, Dylan Smith, Brent Puetz, Nick Anderson, Joel Bauml, and Tom Hooker.

Two players are joining the host Regina Trappers squad for weekend in Cole Bauml and Thomas Lessmeister

The National Championships got underway on Wednesday night with the Opening Ceremonies and Home Run Derby.
