Track star Hiebert primed for big things at nationals
Track and field star Jared Hiebert is coming off an impressive weekend performance in Ottawa, where he squared off against elite talent, and the La Broquerie product is looking to bring that confidence to the Canada Summer Games.

"This past weekend I was in Ottawa," Hiebert explains. "I was representing Winnipeg in the Canadian Track and Field Championships. I competed in the 100 and 200 meters."

Gull Lake, Cabri & Assiniboia set for senior baseball provincials
Four teams are headed to Assiniboia today for the Senior AA Tier 2 Saskatchewan baseball provincials.
Cabri opens the tournament against North Battleford at 2:30 PM today.
The opening ceremonies are set for 5:30 PM followed by the Assiniboia Aces plaing the Findlater Braves.
Meanwhile, Gull Lake is in Hanley for the Senior AA Tier 4 provincials.
The Greyhounds start the tournament against the Pasquia Angels at 2:30 PM.
Cyclones win Southwest Men's Fastball League
Some hockey connections on the ball diamond for the Shaunavon Cyclones.
They captured the Southwest Men's Fastball League Championship on Tuesday by beating the Claydon All Stars 16-11 in game three of a best-of-three final.
Claydon jumped out to an early lead before Shaunavon was able to pull off the comeback.
Former Regina Pat Dyson Stevenson picked up the win on the mound for Shaunavon.
Current Dallas property Kole Lind and Kirk Amon delivered what were described as key doubles to ignite the offence.
Sultans topple favourites from Ontario, start nationals 1-0
The Carillon Sultans made a statement in their first game at the U22 National Championships in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, defeating one of the pre-tournament favourites from Ontario, based out of Sarnia, 7-0.

Dawgs cause the Bombers to have a ruff start to the playoffs
The WCBL West Division Championship kicked off last night (August 6), and the Brooks Bombers had a ruff go of it.
With a final score of 11-4, the Okotoks Dawgs started the playoffs on the right foot, as they chase their fourth consecutive championship title.
The game started off quiet, but the Dawgs opened up the game with a four-run second inning, and managed to score in almost every inning after that.
Not only were the Dawgs able to hold off the Bombers from scoring for the first five innings to secure the win, but they also saw success at the plate.
Glass takes second spot in Battle of the North opener
The chuckwagons are in Dawson Creek, B.C., this week for the latest leg of the WPCA Pro Tour.
Day one of the Battle of the North was held on Aug. 6 and saw Evan Magee take the top spot, followed by High River's Jason Glass, who finished just ten one-hundredths of a second behind.
Glass currently holds the number one spot in the WPCA world standings.
Dayton Sutherland of De Winton landed in ninth place, with Jordie Fike of Blackie placing 15th.

Miller Express take Game 1 over Saskatoon
The Moose Jaw Miller Express are one win away from pulling off a major upset in the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs.
The Miller Express defeated the No. 1-ranked Saskatoon Berries 6–4 on Wednesday night in Saskatoon in Game 1 of the best-of-three East Division semifinal. Saskatoon finished the regular season with a league-record 46 wins.
Macklin completes Battle River Baseball League three-peat
For the third straight year, and for a third straight time against the Veteran Bulls, the Macklin Lakers are Battle River Baseball League champions after their 4-2 win on Thursday night completed a series comeback, keeping the trophy in Saskatchewan for another year.
The Lakers used a strong start from Jared Hillis on the mound, throwing 5.1 innings with only two runs allowed, making way for Cody Gartner who closed the game with 1.2 innings in relief.
Cardinals lose extra innings heartbreaker as Beavers take NSRBL title
