Dezainde finding his footing with Broncos
It's been a quick adjustment for Carlin Dezainde in Swift Current.
After 160 games in Prince George, the Cougars traded Dezainde to the Broncos last week. He is already starting to feel at home.
"It's been easy so far," Dezainde said. "The guys gave me a super warm welcome. Obviously, I was a little shocked. I wasn't really expecting to get moved. It was bittersweet and I was also excited. It's always good to have a change of scenery and a new opportunity.
Shadows pursuit for 9-man football provincial title begins
The Shaunavon Shadows quest to claim the SHSAA's provincial title begins with home-field advantage Friday night as they'll tangle with a familiar foe.
Moose Jaw Vanier will visit Smith Field to face the Shadows, with the winner advancing into the provincial quarter-finals and the losers' season coming to an end.
Shaunavon won 42-0 on October 4 against the Vikings but the score was only 7-0 at halftime.
Sportsbeat - David Duerksen
The Morden Thunder are Provincial A-AA-AAA high school boys soccer champions. Thunder coach David Duerksen will join Clayton Dreger on Sportsbeat which airs Fridays at 5:15 p.m. on CFAM Radio 950.

The Virden Oil Capitals dropped a 4-1 decision to the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Winkler Flyers at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Rhylan Baxter had the lone goal for the Caps who outshot the Flyers 39-27.
The Manitoba Moose assigned forward Carson Golder to the organization’s ECHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. Golder, 21, posted six points in 14 games with the Moose during the 2023-24 AHL season. He also recorded 28 points in 32 games with Norfolk.

Steinbach Regional will play its regular season finale today at 4 p.m. against the Huskies at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate. The Sabres have won four in a row since starting the Winnipeg High School Football League season with back-to-back losses.

The Winkler Flyers have extended their win streak to six games. Rylan Benner made 38 saves as the defending Turnbull Cup champions downed the Virden Oil Capitals 4-1 Thursday night at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Kam Thomas, Jayce Legaarden, Niklas Gudmundson and Max Lavoie did the goal scoring for the Flyers.
Pembina Valley gave up four first period goals and dropped an 8-4 decision to the St. Vital Victorias. Alex VanDeynze had a hat trick for the Twisters who have lost five in a row.
Oilers get blanked in final BCHL Showcase game
The second and final game for the Okotoks Oilers in the BCHL Showcase hosted by the Abbotsford Cauncks as well as the Vancouver Canucks went down as a 4-0 loss to the Langley Rivermen.
Chilliwack played host to the Oilers and Rivermen in the first-ever meeting between the two, along with the first time the Green and Gold played a team in the BCHL's Coastal Conference.
Simon Westling, originally from Härnösand, Sweden, started in net for Okotoks. The 6'5 netminder stopped 16 shots in the contest.
Canada perfect through round-robin at World Mixed Curling
Swift Current's Shaun Meachem, Kelly Schafer and Chris and Teejay Haichert finished round-robin play at the World Mixed Curling Championship with an unbeaten record after an 8-5 win over New Zealand on Thursday.
Canada opened with a deuce in the first end and after forcing New Zealand to one in the second, the Meachem rink scored two more in the third end to go up 4-1.
Landen Stromme named captain for the Humboldt Broncos
The Humboldt Broncos have named their leadership group for the 2024-25 season.
Landen Stromme will wear the “C” for the Broncos this season. The Choiceland product is in his third season with Humboldt. Last season, he had 19 points (8G-11A) in 49 games for Humboldt. So far this season, Stromme has three points (1G-2A) in nine games.
There will be three assistant captains with the Broncos this year.
