Foothills Eagles clinch playoff berth

The Foothills Bantam Eagles have clinched a playoff berth with their 40-6 win over the Calgary Mavericks on Saturday morning (Oct. 12).

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and outscored their opponents 322-127 in the process.

They are tied with the Airdrie Raiders for most points scored during the season. The Calgary Colts finished first in the division with an 8-0 record followed by the Stampeders, Raiders, and then Eagles for the final playoff berth in the first division.

Foothills Falcons set for final home game of the season

The Foothills Falcons are coming off a bye week and will face the Strathmore Spartans in their final home game of the regular season.

On the weekend prior, the Falcons got a win and snapped their two-game losing skid with a 17-7 victory over the Catholic Central High School Cougars.

Asher Nelson was a vital part of the win as he had three interceptions on the night. Darrin Campbell also added an interception in the game.

HTA Knights set to face the always-dangerous Raymond Comets

The HTA Knights stay undefeated on the season after the game against St. Francis Browns on Friday (Oct. 11) was a no-go after the Browns cancelled the game.

Quarterback Declan Lyth has been outstanding this year with 572 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and six rushes for 82 yards on the season.

Lyth and his squad will face some tough competition on Thursday night (Oct. 17) when the always-dangerous Raymon Comets come to Okotoks for the Knights' final home game of the season.

Wildcats belief building after recent play

A second-place finish at the Canadian Crown U18 women's hockey tournament is another big boost for the Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats.

"You hope over the weekend like this is that our group you know starts to believe that they're a real good hockey team," said Wildcats coach Terry Pavely. "We played four to five really good games in Edmonton and three of the last four league games have been really good. We've played a pretty good stretch of hockey. If we continue to do that, we're going to hopefully find success."

Ciarlo makes 48 saves in Oilers loss to Vees at BCHL Showcase

The first-ever game of the BCHL Showcase for the Okotoks Oilers came in a 6-2 loss to the Penticton Vees on Tuesday night (Oct. 15).

The Vees share second place in the Interior Division with the Cranbrook Bucks, who have only a single loss. The Bucks' only loss came at the hands of the Oilers in an 8-5 Green and Gold win at Viking Rentals Centre on September 28. The Brooks Bandits are at number one in the Interior Division with an undefeated record of 7-0-0.

Meachem rink moves to 4-0 at World Mixed Curling

Team Canada improved to 4-0 at the World Mixed Curling Championship with a 9-3 victory over Team England in Aberdeen, Scotland on Tuesday afternoon.

Shaun Meachem, Kelly Schafer and Chris and Teejay Haichert from the Swift Current Curling Club gave up a steal of one in the first end, but rebounded with a deuce in the second to take the early lead.

After Andrew Woolston and Team England scored one in the third to tie the game 2-2, Canada picked up three in the fourth end to go up 5-2 at the break.

Warriors goaltender Banini named WHL Rookie of the Week

Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Josh Banini has been named WHL Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2024, the Western Hockey League announced Tuesday.

Banini earned his first WHL victory in his first start for the Warriors in a monster performance against the Everett Silvertips, posting a .967 save percentage on Friday, October 11.
