From the Philippines to hockey dreams, Jimenea loving life on skates
13-year-old star hockey player, Aljon Gabriel Jimenea, who is known as Gab by his teammates, started playing hockey when he was five years old, and he keeps getting better, and better.
Looking back to when he got to Canada from the Philippines and found the game of hockey, Gab says he knew he found something special right away. "Seeing other people playing, and how challenging skating can be, that stood out."
The young star recalls not knowing anything about the game until he got to Killarney. "I only learned about hockey when we got to Canada," he says with a big smile.
Orioles slugger Owen Goertzen named MJBL MVP
Winkler Orioles star Owen Goertzen has been named the Manitoba Junior Baseball League's MVP.
"It's pretty special," a humble Goertzen says of winning the award. "I didn't think it would happen this year, for sure. But, I feel honoured, and it's pretty special."
U15 AAA Carillon Sultans win provincial championship
A magical weekend for the U15 AAA Carillon Sultans was capped off by the team battling their way to the top of the mountain, claiming the provincial championship.
"It's a good feeling," coach Clint Brandt says of becoming a champion. "Winning never get's old, it's a lot of fun."
57's season ends on rainy note
Mother nature put an end to what has been a challenging WCBL season for the Swift Current 57's.
Local product Kyrell Adair hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the 8th inning as the 57's cut Weyburn's lead to 7-5 last night.
That's when the sky opened up and a storm put an end to Swift Current's comeback.
With Tuesday's game against Lethbridge cancelled, the 57's are now forced to reflect on another season outside the playoff picture.
Swift Current's Ethan Bailey also hit a homerun in a losing cause.
Team Canada earns second overall at U21 World Waterski Championships
Team Canada secured second place overall at the 2025 IWWF World U21 Waterski Championships, which wrapped up Sunday at Predator Bay Water Ski Club south of Calgary.
The host nation was one of 22 countries competing at the event, held July 31 to Aug. 3, and brought a 12-skier roster. Six of those athletes contributed to the silver medal team finish, placing behind the United States and ahead of Austria.
