Lucas Newman scored three times and Hunter Gregory made 15 saves in recording the shutout as the defending Westman High School Hockey League champion Vincent Massey Vikings blanked Crocus Plains 7-0.

Connor Hoemsen had two goals and an assist to lead the Southwest Cougars past the Winnipeg Thrashers 5-3. Bryan Laing, Shane Elder and Spencer Cullen also scored for the Cougars who have won four of their last five games.

The Steinbach Pistons six-game winning streak came to an end Sunday night at the Yellowhead Centre. The Neepawa Titans beat Steinbach 7-6 in overtime. James Fuchs scored the tying goal for the Pistons with 44 seconds left in regulation to send the game into OT. The Titans led 6-2 until Connor Paronuzzi scored a power play goal with nine seconds left in the second period. Noah Szabo, Cale Quamme and Fuchs then scored in the third period for Steinbach.

The Winkler Flyers win streak has reached four games. Kam Thomas scored twice and Liam Ernst made 21 saves as the defending Turnbull Cup champions defeated the Portage Terriers 6-2. Nicholas Mckee, Niklas Gudmundson, Brady Craik and Ethan MacTavish also scored for the Flyers who wrap up their four-game homestand Tuesday night when they face the MJHL's East Division leading Selkirk Steelers.

Cricket enthusiasts in Waverley West will soon have more opportunities to enjoy the sport with the construction of two new cricket pitches nearing completion in the Bridgwater and Waverley Heights neighbourhoods. The pitches are expected to open in spring 2025.

Saskatoon, Sask. – The Moose Jaw Warriors’ offence couldn’t crack the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night, as they were shutout 2-0 at SaskTel Centre.

“It was definitely a game that we could have won, we were in it right until the end,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said. “It’s disappointing because it felt like a very winnable game.”

Warriors goalie Jackson Unger turned away 30 of 31 shots in the loss, while Evan Gardner stopped all 20 shots that Moose Jaw threw on the Saskatoon net.

The Blackfalds Bulldogs went 0-4 on their first road trip of the season, falling 6-3 to Chilliwack Saturday night.

The Bulldogs remain winless on the season, sitting with an 0-7 record after dropping their first three games at home.

Blackfalds opened the scoring against the Chiefs when Alexander Dimitriadis found the back of the net 4:42 into the first.

Chilliwack would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission with goals by Connor Dick and Mateo Mrsic.

Joey Melo tied things up on the power play 3:01 into the second.

The Red Deer Rebels suffered their third straight loss Saturday afternoon, falling 5-1 to the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place.

Edmonton scored its first goal just past the four-minute mark and took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Red Deer replaced starting goaltender Chase Wutzke with Rhett Stoesser in between periods.

The Oil Kings added two more in the second to make it 5-0.

Two six-enders by Team Canada, skipped by Shaun Meachem of the Swift Current Curling Club, highlighted a 19-1 win over Team Latvia on Sunday at the World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Meachem, Kelly Schafer, and Chris and Teejay Haichert opened with four in the first end and then stole nine points over the next three ends, including a steal of six in the fourth to take an 13-0 lead at the break.

Kriss Vonda and Team Latvia got on the board with one in the fifth, but the handshakes came out after Meachem added six more in the sixth end.

A four goal first period was more than enough for the Everett Silvertips as they took out the Swift Current Broncos 6-3 Saturday night at InnovationPlex.

The Portage Terriers and Winkler Flyers will meet for their second matchup of the season, exactly one week after their first.

Winkler won the initial matchup 4-1, as Portage could convert only once on eight powerplay opportunities, while giving up three goals during their six penalty kills.

The Terriers penalty kill is riding a hot streak to go along with goaltender Mitchell Kathler's back-to-back shutouts. Kathler has stopped 38 shots in the last two games, but will undoubtedly see more than the average of 19 he has faced in the previous games.
