City of Red Deer issues blue-green algae caution

With warm temperatures, the City of Red Deer is reminding residents that blue-green algae can be found in standing water, such as Three-Mile Bend.  

“We know our four-legged friends, and sometimes humans, love to cool down in the water at the park, but remember to stay vigilant around algal blooms,” the city said on social media.  

Quality of the prairie hay crop is declining with the heat

Getting this year's hay crop cut in top condition has been a challenge across the prairies.

The heat over the last couple of weeks is resulting in a decline not just in crops, but in hay quality as well.

Hay conditions have been slowly declining since we started seeing the higher temperatures with many days hitting well into the 30's.

Innisfail RCMP respond to fatal motorcycle collision

On July 28, at approximately 4 p.m., the Innisfail RCMP received report of a motorcycle collision in the area of Range Road 25 and Township Road 350 in Red Deer County.

Upon arrival, the driver of the motorcycle, a 33-year-old male resident of Fort McMurray was deceased.

Investigation revealed that a Red Deer County Peace Officer was patrolling on Range Road 25 near Township Road 350 when they observed a sports bike driving Southbound on Range Road 25 at an excessive speed. 

The Peace Officer clocked the rider at 237km/h in an 80km/h zone.

If you can't make it to Sunny 94, bring them to any Alberta bottle depot and say, "These are for Jasper."

Water restrictions lifted for Sylvan Lake

The Town of Sylvan Lake lifted stage 2 water restrictions today (July 29) and is returning to regular conservation.  

The town entered stage 2 of water restrictions on July 19, as high water usage exceeded the ability of the reservoir to refill.    

With help from all Lakers, the town can return to regular water conservation practices.   

Chairs for Charity raises nearly $9,000 for Tools for School program 

Lacombe’s Nowco Home Hardware Chairs for Charity program raised $8,828 for the Lacombe and District Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Tools for School program.  

This year marks the largest amount raised since the program launched in 2018.  

“In total, we're just shy of $40,000 since we started," Organizer and local business owner Deanna Nowochin said.
