Forest on running for councillor, hopes to bring knowledge and experiences to council

Gilbert Forest is adding his name to the ballot for the upcoming election in the RM of De Salaberry, more specifically, the St. Malo Ward.  

He grew up on a beef, dairy and mixed grain farm in De Salaberry and is a father of three. His work experience revolves around public works which include water and sewer operations, mechanics, and backhoe operations, among other roles. He was also a volunteer at the Saint-Malo Fire Department for over five years. 

If elected, his main priorities are infrastructure, services for seniors and recreation.  

Jeff Friesen wins by acclamation, looks forward to representing Ward 1 in HSD

Kleefeld resident Jeff Friesen believes in the importance of quality education. With this, he decided to run as a trustee for Ward 1 of the Hanover School Division and won by acclamation.  

As a father of five, two sons-in-law, one granddaughter and another grandchild on the way, he says “choosing to run for trustee of HSD wasn’t a difficult choice.” 

HSD Ward 3 Trustee candidate says "my time isn't done"

Mother of two, Danielle Funk says, she knows she’s not the only one in the southeast, who believes they were thrown a Covid-curveball these past three years. And when it comes to her time as a Trustee for Ward 3 in the Hanover School Division, Funk says she feels like her time isn’t done.  

Funk is finishing up her first team as Trustee and says her goal, when first elected, was to be a strong voice for students.  

R.M. of Ste. Anne reeve is seeking another term

After serving four years as Reeve for the R.M. of Ste. Anne, Paul Saindon says he is seeking re-election. 

Saindon says one term is simply not long enough. 

“It takes that long to really find your groove and get something going,” he says. “Although we have some pretty significant projects on the go and completed, I think there's a whole lot more to do and I think four more years is a good number.” 

Anderson returns for third term as Reeve of Piney

There will certainly be some familiar faces when the new council for the Rural Municipality of Piney is announced next month. 

Ward 1 Councillor Ken Prociw and Ward 2 Councillor Dale Edbom have each won their respective seats by acclamation. In Ward 3, incumbent David Beaudry is up against Jacob Dyck, while in Ward 4, there will be a new councillor, with Mark Bernard being acclaimed there.

There will also be a familiar face leading council as Reeve Wayne Anderson is back by acclamation.

Local farmer wants to add a Trustee hat to his cap collection

Having been a grain farmer all his life, Shayne Barkman would like to add a trustee hat to his cap collection. 

After recently finding out that there would be an opening in Ward 2 of the Hanover School Division Barkman decided this would be as good a time as any to put his name on the ballot for trustee.  

Shaun Loney believes new tool will decrease crime and homelessness in Winnipeg

Mayoral Candidate Shaun Loney is vying for a safe Winnipeg that is full of opportunity for everyone. 

"I was actually cleaning up a homeless camp near my home in Norwood and realized this woman had been living in a tree," says Shaun Loney, one of the mayoral candidates. "I thought, I don't think I can live with the regret of being 75 or 80 and looking back at my life and thinking, I was supposed to stand up there."

Loney has been working in the social enterprise sector with non-profit businesses in Winnipeg.
