Canada's domestic tourism industry could net billions due to U.S. trade war: report

Canada's tourism industry might be in for a boost as Canadians boycott the United States and spend their travel dollars closer to home this year.

In a report released May 29, the Conference Board of Canada estimates the net economic benefit for the domestic tourism sector could be as high as $8.8 billion.

The think tank said its April travel intentions survey suggests roughly 27 per cent of Canadian respondents are considering a trip to the U.S. in the next few years - down from more than 50 per cent in the same survey last November.

Okotoks home prices climb as supply remains tight

Despite a rise in new listings across the Calgary region this May, Okotoks' housing supply remains relatively low.

Calgary Real Estate Board's (CREB) Regional Monthly Statistics for May 2025 show a boost in new listings and sales in Okotoks.

Despite that, available inventory didn't see much of a change, with a sales-to-new-listings ratio of 74 per cent.

Okotoks has struggled to keep pace with Calgary and other bedroom communities like Cochrane and Airdrie when it comes to supply, with sales growth remaining sluggish as a result.

Police seize $320,000 in drugs and three handguns in south Calgary bust

Police seized three loaded handguns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and roughly $320,000 worth of cocaine and methamphetamine from a home in south Calgary last month.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) organized crime unit executed a search warrant at an apartment in the Seton neighbourhood on May 22, with help from the Calgary Police Service.

Why quality water is important for livestock

Testing ground and surface water sources can help determine if there are contaminants present that can affect animal health and production. In Saskatchewan, common contaminants include sulfate, sodium, nitrate, and iron. Stagnant surface water sources that experience nutrient-loading may be susceptible to blue-green algae, which can produce toxins that are unsafe for livestock.

Schools in the Foothills School Division are recognized for their musical talents 

Two schools, part of the Foothills School Division (FSD), were recently recognized for their musical talents.

The Alberta High School of Fine Arts (AHSFA) Vocal Ensemble placed first overall in the Con Brio Music Festival at Sun Peaks, which took place in early May.

On top of that, they are the top high school choir for the 2024-2025 school year.

This achievement highlights the ensemble's dedication and talent.

Suspicious death in Calgary is still undetermined following autopsy

The Calgary Police are continuing to investigate a suspicious death from the weekend.

They had responded to a report of a dead person in Auburn Bay Circle SE on Saturday (May 31), and they began investigating the circumstances around his death.

An autopsy was completed on Monday, June 2, but the death remains undetermined, pending further testing.
