Dawgs swarm Giants for the win

Tonight fans at Seaman Stadium witnessed the Okotoks Dawgs topple the Fort McMurray Giants 16-7.

Sherwood Park's own and Dawgs' veteran Graham Brunner got the team rolling with a hot start on the mound. Brunner pitched four full innings, allowed only three hits, and punched out five Giant batters with strikeouts.

Cam Stephens, Ryan McFarland, Easton Corey, and Trey Mackwood came in as relievers. Corey pitched the eighth inning not allowing a walk or a hit, and punched out three Fort McMurray batters for three up, three down.

Olds College of Agriculture 2024 Partner of the Year  RME

Olds College of Agriculture announced RME - formerly known as Rocky Mountain Equipment - as their 2024 Partner of the Year.

RME has made significant contributions to Olds College by providing students with equipment giving them the opportunity to work with the latest machinery and technology in the agriculture industry. 

The research side of Olds also benefits as farm staff and researchers also have access to the equipment as they work the 3,000 acres that make up the Olds College Smart Farm.

The two-day event featured some key informational sessions and tours touching on every aspect of crop production from seeding to harvest, new advancements in technology, and livestock-related research.

The farm-focused and data-driven educational expo is celebrating five years of innovation.

Changes announced to AFSC Next Generation Loan Program

Alberta has announced changes to the  Agriculture Financial Services Corporation’s (AFSC) Next Generation Loan program. 

The province says over the past 20 years, the number of young and middle-aged producers in agriculture has seen steep declines, while the number of farmers over 55 has increased. 

Alberta’s government wants to reverse that trend with changes to AFSC’s Next Gen Program .

High River RCMP is looking for identity theft suspect

High River RCMP are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect in an identity theft and fraud case.

The suspect had used a High River resident's identity to open multiple bank accounts and take out a loan under her name in Alberta and British Columbia.

The issue was only discovered once the victim had done a credit check through Equifax, and it is still unknown how the suspect(s) got the victim's information.

The RCMP have provided photos of one of the suspects.

Japanese students step up to the plate at Dawgs stadium

A group of students from Japan got a tour of Okotoks' Seaman Stadium on Tuesday.

About a dozen students from Konan Girls' Junior & Seniors High School in Kobe, Japan are in town for the Muskoka Language International's Homestay program.

The program gives Japanese students a chance to experience Canadian culture firsthand, and Okotoks has been one of the destinations for several years.

Foothills Fire Department welcomes their new Chief

A new fire chief has been welcomed to the Foothills Fire Department.

Russ Friesen will be taking on the title, bringing 25 years of experience to the role.

Beyond his home province of Manitoba, his career has taken him to Ontario, B.C., and Alberta.

Friesen is also no stranger to the Foothills, having previously served as Deputy Fire Chief with the Okotoks Fire Department.

Additionally, he's had experience in Forensic and Senior Fire & explosion investigation.

The fire department shared a welcome message on their Facebook page.

Bulk water station in Aldersyde is temporarily unavailable

Those looking to get their bulk water will not be able to go to the Aldersyde location at the moment.

The Aldersyde Bulk Fill Station has been closed since Monday so some repairs could be completed.

According to Foothills County, there was a crack in a water line that needed to be repaired, but crews should have the station back up and running either by the end of day Wednesday or early Thursday.

The Blackie and the West Foothills Water Fill Station are still open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
