Diamond Valley road closed for a film production

A road in Diamond Valley is closed this evening (Oct. 16) due to a film production.

Sunset Boulevard will be closed from 5-9 p.m. to accommodate the production, which is shooting at a local business.

Traffic is being detoured along Edgar Avenue and Hubert Street.

It's unclear exactly which production it is, and it could be one of several projects currently on production in Southern Alberta including the Netflix series My Life With the Walter Boys and The Abandons, and the film Die, My Love.

Foothills County could see its first snowfall of the season very soon.

It's been a warm autumn so far, with temperatures around 10 degrees above the average for this time of year, but it looks like that could change early next week.

High River Pride has reported three incidents at three separate residences in town, all of which were displaying Pride flags,  over the last few weeks

Sikh groups call for Indian consulates to be shut down in Vancouver, Toronto

Representatives of a British Columbia Sikh temple whose president was shot dead last year, as well as the Sikh independence group he was involved in, say their communities won't feel safe until India's consulates in Vancouver and Toronto are shut down.

That's after the Canadian government expelled six Indian diplomats, including the high commissioner, and the RCMP announced on Monday it had evidence of their alleged involvement in crimes including homicide and extortion targeting the so-called Khalistan independence movement.

Foothills Eagles clinch playoff berth

The Foothills Bantam Eagles have clinched a playoff berth with their 40-6 win over the Calgary Mavericks on Saturday morning (Oct. 12).

The Eagles finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and outscored their opponents 322-127 in the process.

They are tied with the Airdrie Raiders for most points scored during the season. The Calgary Colts finished first in the division with an 8-0 record followed by the Stampeders, Raiders, and then Eagles for the final playoff berth in the first division.

Foothills Falcons set for final home game of the season

The Foothills Falcons are coming off a bye week and will face the Strathmore Spartans in their final home game of the regular season.

On the weekend prior, the Falcons got a win and snapped their two-game losing skid with a 17-7 victory over the Catholic Central High School Cougars.

Asher Nelson was a vital part of the win as he had three interceptions on the night. Darrin Campbell also added an interception in the game.

HTA Knights set to face the always-dangerous Raymond Comets

The HTA Knights stay undefeated on the season after the game against St. Francis Browns on Friday (Oct. 11) was a no-go after the Browns cancelled the game.

Quarterback Declan Lyth has been outstanding this year with 572 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and six rushes for 82 yards on the season.

Lyth and his squad will face some tough competition on Thursday night (Oct. 17) when the always-dangerous Raymon Comets come to Okotoks for the Knights' final home game of the season.

New learning agreement will strengthen Indigenous education and reconciliation in Okotoks Catholic Schools

A new educational agreement is going to help students at local Catholic schools learn more about Métis history and culture.

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools in Okotoks have recently announced a new educational services agreement with the Rupertsland Institute, which will be a part of their 2024-2025 learning plan.

Through this partnership, it will help to deepen the understanding of Métis history and culture, as well as strengthen Indigenous education throughout the Catholic schools.

High River will be getting a new skatepark, and you have a say

The Town of High River is getting a new skatepark, and they are looking for input.

They will be hosting a hands-on workshop on Thursday, October 24 to receive feedback from the public about what they want to see at the park.

The workshop will take place at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., but the Town says not to worry about being left out if you can't make it to the in-person event.

They will also provide an online survey later down the line so everyone can share their thoughts and ideas on the park.
