Update: Fort Macleod missing woman located safe
The Fort Macleod RCMP were seeking help from the public in the search for a missing woman.
59-year-old Wilma White Man Left was last seen in Fort Macleod on July 25, and there had been concern for her wellbeing.
Anyone with White Man Left's whereabouts was encouraged to contact the Fort Macleod RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
The Fort Macleod RCMP has now reported that Wilma White Man Left has been located safe, and the RCMP thanks everyone for their assistance.
Town of High River warns of scam targeting seniors
The Town of High River is warning residents, particularly seniors, about a scam that’s been making the rounds.
According to the Town, it has received reports of emails and text messages offering a one-time government payment to seniors.
In a Facebook post, the Town urged residents to stay vigilant. “This is not real,” the post reads. “Scammers are trying to trick you into sharing personal or banking info.”
iitopatopa Park to open with Blackfoot Pipe Ceremony, honouring land and culture
The Town of Okotoks is celebrating the grand opening of iitopatopa Park with a Blackfoot Pipe Ceremony.
Members of the community are invited to the grand opening ceremony tomorrow (July 30) at 10 a.m. at 370068 40 Street East, one block east of Bill Robertson Park.
The newly developed day-use area features a nature-themed playground, picnic shelters, and a disc golf course.
Alberta Premier Smith, minister call for separation referendum question be approved
Premier Danielle Smith and one of her ministers are calling on Alberta's electoral officer to reverse course and sign off on a proposed referendum question on separation, saying it shouldn't be held back by red tape.
This week, chief electoral officer Gordon McClure announced he had referred the proposed question to the courts so a judge could decide if the question contravenes Canada's Constitution.
Film crews will be taking over High River this week
The Town of High River will be filled with film crews this week.
According to the Town, there will be multiple film crews in town from Tuesday, July 29, to Friday, August 1.
There will be parking restrictions on 4 Ave SW today, and the crews will be active in George Lane Park.
On Wednesday, there will be intermittent traffic control and parking restrictions in place along 3 Ave SW, and on Thursday, residents and visitors to High River can expect parking restrictions and minor traffic delays along Macleod Trail SW, 9 Street SW, and around Medicine Tree Manor.
Murder charges laid in fatal Siksika Nation hit and run
A man has been charged in connection with a hit and run on Siksika Nation that killed two people and left another in critical condition over the weekend.
Gleichen RCMP responded to the incident around 9:30 p.m. on July 26, after a vehicle drove into a group of five people, striking three of them.
On Monday evening (July 28), the RCMP Major Crimes Unit identified the deceased as 27-year-old Trayton Runningbird and 45-year-old Clifton Saddleback.
The third victim, a 45-year-old woman, remains in hospital in critical condition.
Giants forfeit Dawgs doubleheader, games now under protest
The Okotoks Dawgs were set to host the Fort McMurray Giants for a doubleheader on Monday night (July 28), but the games didn’t end up happening.
The matchups were originally scheduled for July 22 but were postponed due to rain.
Rain played a role in Monday’s cancellation too, though for a different reason.
Just before 5 p.m., the Dawgs posted on Facebook announcing that the Giants had forfeited, and that fans would instead be treated to a Dawgs vs. Dawgs matchup.
The WCBL website lists both games as "Away forfeits."
Foothills commuters face thick patches of fog on Tuesday morning
Commuters are dealing with thick fog across much of the Foothills on Tuesday morning (July 29).
Environment Canada has issued a Fog Advisory for parts of Foothills County near Priddis, warning that fog patches are reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.
The advisory was issued early Tuesday and is expected to remain in effect through the morning, with conditions improving by early afternoon.
Town of Okotoks warns of Foxtail Barley and potential health risk for pets
The Town of Okotoks is warning the public about the effects a plant found in Okotoks has on pets.
Hordeum Jubatum, otherwise known as foxtail barley or bobtail barley, is a perennial plant in the grass family Poaceae, which occurs in the wild in northern North America and northeastern Siberia.
Foxtail Barley is described as being fluffy with green-to-golden seed heads, which can be found around the Town of Okotoks.
These can be problematic for dogs, because the seeds are barbed and can become lodged in the animal's paws, ears, nose, or mouth.
