Terriers start November with a win

It was a successful trip to Winnipeg last night as the Portage Terriers defeated the Winnipeg Blues 7-4. It was the Dogs 4th win in a row and gives them a 14-2 record, which is tops in the MJHL.

Hayden Chaloner scored the first two goals of the game in the first 4 minutes but the Blues would tie it up by scoring two of their own over the next 8. Terriers head coach and GM Blake Spiller said after they opened up the scoring, the team played he referred to as river hockey.

Terriers look for fourth straight win, Siso named player of the week

The Portage Terriers are on a roll in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.

The Dogs have outscored their opponents 15-5 in their last three games and hope for similar success as they head to Winnipeg to battle the Blues.

The Terriers sit atop the East Division with the Steinbach Pistons, as both teams hold an identical 13-2 record. The Blues have struggled, sitting in 5th with a record of 5-9-1, and are on a 6-game losing streak.

Terriers pick up two wins on the weekend

The Portage Terriers picked up a 4-2 win on Saturday night over the Niverville Nighthawks. It was the first time the Terriers visited the newest MJHL franchise and the first time Portage came out on top. The win followed an impressive 7-2 thumping of Waywayseecapo on home ice the night before. The two wins came against the only two teams that had beaten the Terriers this season so far.

Terriers bounce back after first home loss

The Portage Terriers are back to their winning ways. The Dogs downed the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-1 tonight, just two days after losing their second game of the season.

While the Terriers ended up with the victory, Swan Valley was the first to get a big scoring chance in this one. Halfway through the first, a shot in tight squeaked past Portage goalie Jayden Catellier and nearly crossed the red line, however, Bryden Kiesman and Sequoia Swan both used their sticks to keep the puck out in the crease until the net was knocked off its moorings.

Terriers win streak stopped at seven after falling to Niverville

It was an unfortunate outcome for the Portage Terriers tonight as they suffered just their second loss of the season. The Dogs were defeated by the Niverville Nighthawks 6-2 on home ice.

The Nighthawks began the scoring early in the first period as Brett Tataryn brought the puck in during a 3-on-1 opportunity and made a pass to Brendan Bottom, who was cutting down the slot. Bottem was now in all alone, and after making a few moves, he slid the puck between the pads of Terrier goaltender Bailey Monteith to give Niverville the early lead.

Terriers not sure what to expect in first ever matchup with Nighthawks

The Portage Terriers are aiming for their eighth straight win as they return to Stride Place tonight.

The Dogs are set to play their first game ever against the MJHL's newest team, the Niverville Nighthawks. Goaltender Bailey Monteith says it's hard to know what to expect from the latest expansion team.

Due to the nature of the injury, it was decided that the remainder of the game would be finished at a later date.

Terriers continue hot streak in Swan Valley

The Portage Terriers picked up their seventh straight win Friday night, beating the Swan Valley Stampeders 5-2. A hot start and a dynamic power play were key elements in the road victory.

Brayden Kiesman made an instant impact in his Terrier debut. The 20-year-old forward was acquired earlier in the week from the Nipawin Hawks (SJHL). He scored his first goal less than two minutes into the game on the power play. The Stampeders responded with a 5-on-3 goal by Jordan Keck.
