'Be ready for both': Canadians prepare for any outcome as Americans head to the polls

Millions of Americans are heading to the polls Tuesday as a chaotic presidential campaign reaches its peak in a deeply divided United States, where voters in only a handful of battleground states will choose the country’s path forward.

Vice-President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump have presented starkly different visions for America's future, but polling shows the two remain in a dead heat. 

Reenactors bring World War I history to life at Airdrie library

On Saturday the Airdrie Public Library held a World War I Living History Exhibition that showcased reenactors from the Alberta World War Living History Association.

The reenactors demonstrated the daily routines, equipment, and tactics used by soldiers during World War I.

Jamieson Gardiner, the Digital Literacy and Team Programmer for the Airdrie Public Library explained the three reenactors represented the Black Watch Highlanders regiment that was recruited from the Alberta area.

Firefighters wanted: Crossfield accepting applications

The Crossfield Fire Department has opened up its recruitment process.

Bill Messner, the Crossfield Fire Chief shared they are looking for firefighters who live in and outside of Crossfield, as you don't have to live in the town to become one.

"The goal is to just increase staffing levels to aid in support of further fire protection for the town. I hope to add 10-12 firefighters, but it depends on applicants."

He went on to talk about some minimum requirements they have including standard first aid and CPR.

Indian prime minister condemns violence at Hindu temple in Ontario

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is condemning violence that erupted Sunday when Indian consular officials visited a Hindu temple in Brampton, Ont., as police announced three people have been charged in the clash.

Visits by Indian officials to the temple in Brampton and another in Surrey, B.C., were met with protests from demonstrators seeking a separate Sikh nation called Khalistan.

'The best that we can be': Indigenous judge and TRC chair Murray Sinclair dies at 73

Murray Sinclair, who was born when Indigenous people did not yet have the right to vote, grew up to become one of the most decorated and influential people to work in Indigenous justice and advocacy.

A former judge and senator, one of Sinclair's biggest roles was chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission into residential schools. 

He died Monday morning in a Winnipeg hospital, said his son Niigaan Sinclair. He was 73.

Sinclair was a father of five and a grandfather.

Airdronian shares thoughts on new cancer facility in Calgary

On October 28, one of the largest government infrastructure projects in Alberta, the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre, officially opened services to patients.

According to the province, With 127,000 square metres of space, including 160 inpatient beds and more than 9,200 square metres dedicated to research, the Arthur Child will provide world-leading care and treatment to patients while driving innovation and working towards a future without cancer.
