W.H. Croxford and Bert Church team up to support Airdrie Food Bank

Last week the annual football game between W.H. Croxford and Bert Church wasn't just about the game, it was also about the Airdrie Food Bank. 

During the matchup, the two booster clubs host an event called "Cram the Ram," which allows the fan bases to donate food and cash to the food bank.

 Airdrie Dodge provided two Ram trucks for fans to fill with non-perishable food donations. Cash contributions were also accepted.

 Jennifer Thompson, the President of the Chargers Football Booster Club, talked about how the event went.

Provincial government fights federal emissions cap with national advertising

Airdronians will be among many Canadians to see a new $7 million advertising campaign from the provincial government calling on the federal government to stop the cap on greenhouse gas pollution from the oil and gas sector.

According to the provincial government, they are launching a national advertising campaign to inform Canadians that this cap will lead our province (Alberta) and country into economic and societal decline.

On Tuesday afternoon, city administration officials presented critical highlights of the proposed operating and capital budgets, outlining their potential impacts on households and businesses. The city’s 2025 operating budget is projected at $228.7 million.

UPDATE: Motor vehicle collision slowing down QEII traffic

Traffic on the QEII northbound was slow going because of a collision but it has since been cleared.

The collision was located near the Balzac overpass right by CrossIron Mills.

Crews are no longer on the scene.

Phase three repairs begin on Bearspaw South Feeder Main

The City of Calgary is preparing to begin phase three of repairs to the Bearspaw South Feeder Main, with pre-work scheduled to start today.

According to the City of Calgary press release, construction is expected to continue until late November.

"These repairs are much smaller in scope and will not require city-wide water restrictions (including Airdrie) because these sections can be isolated while keeping the feeder main running."

Local man previously arrested on child pornography offences has trial date set

Thijs Gordon Vogelzang, a Crossfield resident and former educational assistant who was arrested in late May on child pornography charges after a six-month-long investigation, will go to trial in June 2025 in Calgary.

The heartwarming visit from 15 of the young men came spontaneously after it became known that the building’s elevator had malfunctioned a few days prior.

Sarah Barton, a hockey mom, had been chatting with another parent, Janaya Stevenson, who works at Cedarwood Station, on Sunday during the team's hockey game when the topic came up. 

Airdrie man charged with defrauding victims of over $100,000 online

Mbua Ngomba Kalla, 49, an Airdrie resident, is facing multiple fraud and money laundering charges following an investigation by the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region's Provincial Financial Crime Team in Edmonton. Between January and July 2023, Kalla is accused of fraudulently obtaining over $100,000 from domestic and international victims.

Victims reportedly sent money through e-transfer and wire transfer for goods listed on online sales platforms, including hay bales, deer antlers, antiseptic cleaning wipes, and sea urchins.
