Airdrie Special Olympics teams up with RCMP for successful fundraiser
Monday night, Airdrie Special Olympics held a fundraising event at Boston Pizza called "Cops, Pops and Pizza."
Staff Sgt. Ryan with the Southern Alberta RCMP, who is also the chairperson for the Calgary region Special Olympics, spoke to DiscoverAirdrie and explained athletes and police officers were working with servers at Boston Pizza to collect donations that would help send local athletes to provincial events for certain sports.
Rocky View Schools final enrolment figures to be shared next week
Rocky View Schools (RVS) has seen a slight decrease in enrolment throughout September.
Back in January, RVS submitted to the government their projected enrolment for this school year. According to the division, it's complicated to predict the enrolment growth but RVS predicted they would be at 29,350 students.
Back at the beginning of September, RVS enrolment was around the 29,300 mark. As of Tuesday, September 17, RVS enrolments were 29,221 students.
Mountain View County to hold by-election
Last month, it was announced that a Mountain View County (MVC) Councilor had resigned. Around a week ago it was announced a by-election was taking place to replace the Councillor.
Gord Krebs, was the former division four councillor, now two candidates have stepped up to try and assume the role, Sean LaBrie and Tiffany Nixon.
UPDATE: Multi-vehicle collision slows northbound traffic on QEII
A multi-vehicle collision that was slowing down traffic on the QEII is now clear.
According to reports, the collision was affecting northbound traffic and was located just south of the 40th Avenue Overpass.
Crews are no longer on the scene.

Accused murder suspects in Airdrie resident’s death to be tried together
Crown prosecution stated today that the two men involved in the shooting death of an Airdrie resident in early August and the wounding of another man will be tried together.
Although the men had been charged separately, 35-year-old Arthur Wayne Penner, a resident of Edmonton and 28-year-old Elijah Blake Strawberry will be tried together when the case goes to trial. Neither Penner nor Strawberry has lawyers at the moment. However, the next court date is Thursday, October 10, for election and plea.

A man in his 60's is in life-threatening condition following a single-vehicle collision early Thursday morning on Deerfoot Trail.

The government is set to rename the default electricity rate from the "Regulated Rate Option" (RRO) to the "Rate of Last Resort" (ROLR), which, according to the province, is meant to reflect its often higher and more volatile nature compared to competitive options. Additionally, the ROLR will be adjusted every two years, with rate increases capped at 10 percent between terms.
