Airdrie man charged with multiple sexual assaults; Rocky View Schools confirms previous teaching roles

Rocky View Schools has confirmed that a staff member who has not been assigned to any RVS school since late 2023 has been charged with multiple sexual offences following an RCMP investigation. The 47-year-old Airdrie resident, Rodney Reisner, remains in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing.

Crossfield teacher faces 16 sex-related charges

On July 9, after an extensive investigation, Airdrie RCMP arrested a Crossfield teacher for multiple sexual offences.

"During the investigation, numerous interviews were conducted, and a total of eight victims were identified," shared the RCMP in a press release.

Rodney Reisner (47), a resident of Airdrie, has been charged with 16 criminal code offences, including:

  • Sexual assault (x8)
  • Sexual exploitation (x8)

"Reisner is currently in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing to determine his release."

Here’s how long your RV can stay parked in Airdrie — and what happens if it doesn’t move

It’s RV season in Airdrie — but the curb’s not a campground. Under Traffic Bylaw B-30/2023, recreational vehicles can be parked directly beside the registered owner’s residence for up to 72 consecutive hours.

Once that limit is reached, the vehicle must be moved off the street for at least 48 hours before returning.

Pool B at Calgary Stampede heats up as only top 3 today go to finals

The hot sun beating down on the rodeo athletes on Tuesday didn't affect the overall scores.

However, it did heat up the standings in the aggregate, with Wednesday being the last day for Pool B contestants to qualify for Championship Sunday.

As far as local Albertans and Canadians, all eyes were on the Saddle Bronc riders as former Champion Zeke Thurston is in the hunt for another Championship.

Thurston, from Big Valley, Alberta, is a 3-time Calgary Stampede Saddle Bronc champion.

The Airdrie area just had its hottest July 8 in 138 years

Tuesday’s high of 31.8 C in the Airdrie-Calgary area broke a daily temperature record set in 1886, according to Environment Canada.

“That includes the Calgary and Airdrie area,” said Heather Rombough, Senior Meteorologist with Environment Canada. 

According to the July 9 summary, the previous record of 31.7 C was set in 1886. Records for the area have been kept since 1881.

Police investigating after three people hospitalized in Stampede Midway assault

Police are investigating a serious assault that left three people hospitalized after an incident on the Calgary Stampede Midway late Tuesday night.

Officers were called to reports of an assault near the Euroslide at about 11:05 p.m. on July 8, where they found a man in medical distress.

He was transported to hospital in life-threatening but stable condition, Calgary police said in a Wednesday morning release.

Alberta government offering its own museum freebies as part of Canada Strong pass

Alberta's government is jumping on board a federal initiative aimed at saving Canadians a buck if they stay close to home this summer.

The province says it's offering its own free and discounted admissions as part of the Canada Strong Pass program, introduced by the federal government last month.

First promised as a way to promote Canadian tourism in response to the U.S. tariff war, the federal pass includes free access to national parks and historic sites, along with free rail tickets and museum admission for those under 18.

RVS Superintendent reflects and is grateful ahead of retirement

Greg Luterbach is thankful for his experience at Rocky View Schools (RVS) as Superintendent, with his retirement just around the corner.

Luterbach talked to DiscoverAirdrie about his upcoming retirement, and he explained it as being a blast working for the school division.

"These last nine years. We've had lots of growth, plenty of challenges, but you know, it's been a fantastic team to be part of."
