Drive for Excellence enhances healthcare here at home

Bethesda Foundation hosted their annual Drive for Excellence Golf Tournament recently.  And what a beautiful sunny day it was, nestled in between many rainy days!

“Fundraising events like the golf tournament make it possible for Bethesda Foundation to provide specialized equipment for our local hospital,” says Linda Peters, the Foundation’s Executive Director.  “We’ve also been able to contribute towards mental health initiatives in our community, as well as larger projects like the CancerCare Centre, or the Crisis Stabilization Unit, just to name a few.”

Tick season has begun. And the mosquitoes are coming. Yes, the warmer weather is pleasant, and most Manitobans understand the importance of enjoying it with applications such as bug repellent and sunscreen.

But what about our pets? What is parasite season?

“Basically, anytime the temperature goes above freezing, it’s parasite season,” says veterinarian Amritpal Baath. “Along with the ticks, fleas can be out when the temperature becomes more favourable, and as the temperature warms up further, like above 14℃, the mosquito activity also increases.”

Festival Coordinator Carla Campbell is enthusiastic about all the new ways the festival is drawing in the community: Market in the City, Paddles in the City, Race in the City, and Cornhole!

“We’re a celebration of arts, culture, and heritage on Main Street in Steinbach,” says Campell. “And it all kicks off Friday celebrating Steinbach’s 150th birthday!”

One person found deceased in Emerson

Manitoba RCMP are confirming a person was found deceased in Emerson over the weekend. 

Several people reported to that there was an RCMP presence in the community. Authorities have released no other details, including the reason for the police presence. 

RCMP confirmed there is no risk to public safety, adding the law enforcement agency will be in a position to provide more information on Monday.

Provincially & Internationally Recognized Speakers Scheduled For The 37th Annual Brokenhead River Agricultural Conference

What had been halved in years past is now returning to its full potential! The 37th Annual Brokenhead River Agricultural Conference is coming February 6th and 7th, once again planned as a two-day event!

Terry Buss, crop production extension specialist with Manitoba Agriculture who partners with the Brokenhead Agricultural Society, shares that this event has been running since 1986.

Buss is pleased at the return of the two-day length, putting particular emphasis on the chance to focus on separate topics each day.
