Glenn Forrester Properties enjoys Grain Rush delivery

Another delicious KFC meal made its way to the field yesterday, marking the latest edition of Grain Rush!

Glenn Forrester, a seasoned farmer with nearly 49 years of experience, reflects on this year’s harvest. Despite favorable weather, Forrester’s yields have been lower than usual. His canola produced between 28 to 30 bushels per acre, and durum wheat yielded 35 to 40 bushels per acre, both facing quality issues. Canola seed sizes are smaller than expected, and the durum wheat hasn't met the desired standard.

Sunday plant sale fundraiser is happening, rain or shine

Rain or shine, the semiannual plant sale fundraiser of the Cochrane & District Horticultural Society is being held this coming Sunday, Sept. 15 in front of the Cochrane Public Library, 405 Railway St. W. 

The runs from 1 to 3 p.m., and it's wise to show up early. Typically, people line up anxious for the sale to begin.

Like the spring, they'll have a series of canopy tents on site for the sale.

Carlyle Curling Club seeks to grow youth program with Fuel Good Day fundraiser

An opportunity to support three great communities in southeast Saskatchewan is coming up on Tuesday, September 17, as the Southern Plains Co-op hosts its annual Fuel Good Day fundraiser at their gas bars in Carlyle, Estevan, and Oxbow. For every litre of fuel sold, 10 cents will be donated to local organizations. Additionally, every size of coffee will be sold for just $1, with the proceeds going toward the fundraiser.

The Chinook Film Group's first film of its 20th season explores a topic that touches close to home.

"Thelma" tells the story of a senior who falls prey to a phone scam and follows the actions she takes to recover the funds.

It's in Cochrane for one night only at the Cochrane Movie House on Sept. 18.

Thelma is a 93-year-old woman who lives alone and receives a phone call out of the blue from a scammer claiming her grandson has been arrested. To set him free, she has to fork out $10,000, and does.
