New additions and old favourites set for Bienfait Canada Day

Canada Day in Bienfait promises another jam-packed day of fun, food, music, and family-friendly activities — with a few exciting additions for 2024. Recreation Director Sarah Yoner joined SUN 102 to walk through the full lineup, from pancake breakfast to fireworks, and shared what makes this year extra special.

Enrollment surge and legacy honoured at Steinbach Christian’s 75-year celebration

Steinbach Christian School is celebrating 75 years of providing Christ-centred education, a milestone that has brought generations of alumni, staff, students and community members together to reflect on the school's growth and enduring values. 

What began in 1949 as a small educational institution tied closely to Steinbach Bible College has since expanded to nearly 500 students and 48 staff members, with grades now ranging from kindergarten to Grade 12. 

Big Brothers Big Sisters tees up summer fundraisers

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Plains is teeing up for a busy summer of fundraising, with two major events aimed at supporting its youth mentoring programs.

The organization, which relies on fundraising, grants and donations for approximately 80 per cent of its annual budget, is bringing back its Ultimate 90-Hole Golf Marathon on June 19 at the Portage Golf Club. Executive Director Dawn Froese notes that the event's popularity has led to its return.

Sacred gathering for all nations: Honouring Elijah Harper’s legacy in Winnipeg

A special event open to all Manitobans is taking place in Winnipeg this weekend, following in the footsteps of Elijah Harper's Sacred Assemblies meeting 30 years ago. 

"This is a conference that is spearheaded by my dad, Reverend Robert McLean from The Fairford Sanctuary," says Marty McLean, pastor at Encounter Life Ministries in Winnipeg. "I'm working alongside with him. It's a vision that has been burning in my dad's heart for a long, long time. He's been praying about it and wanting to find a time and a place. This is it."

Being the light: Union Gospel Mission community barbecue shares the love of Jesus

Dozens of people came together for Union Gospel Mission's North End community barbecue at the UGM Family Life Centre on Saturday afternoon.

In addition to the warm barbecue lunch, there were various sports and games for families to participate in, with a bouncy castle especially for younger children.

Before jetting off to Ottawa for the annual Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) convention, Steinbach Mayor Earl Funk made a pit stop at the Country 107 morning show served up by A&W Steinbach — and the conversation quickly swerved from politics to peanuts. 

Carly Koop from the Country 107 team sat down with Mayor Funk for a rapid-fire round of random questions. The light-hearted Q&A gave listeners a rare behind-the-scenes look at the mayor’s everyday life — including a few surprises. 

International Music Camp Concert Series: June 6-July 25

The International Peace Garden is excited to announce this year’s lineup for the International Music Camp Festival of the Art Concert Series. On Friday nights in June and July, IMC offers a different musical act in genres ranging from traditional Métis tunes to folk music, Americana, indie, jazz, a brass quintet and more.
