'Devoted women with servant's hearts' are this month's lunch break winners

The staff at Union Gospel Mission's Charis Centre were the happy recipients of May's Danny's Whole Hog BBQ Lunch Break from CHVN on Thursday.

They were nominated by Lenise, a coworker, who said, "These women work tirelessly pouring into the lives of women struggling in addiction daily. "

The Charis Centre, one of UGM's seven ministries, assists women struggling with addiction.

The nomination form continued, " They are devoted women with servant's hearts. It is a joy to serve alongside these women on a day-to-day basis."

Yeti takes the title as May’s Perfect Pet!

After a rainy month full of muddy paws and cozy cuddles, one pup stood out—and it’s Yeti, a Jack Russell mix with a big heart and a serious love for walks and naps.

Yeti was adopted from the Estevan Humane Society, and according to his owner Dallas, he’s a total mama’s boy who’s happiest when he’s curled up for a nap or out on a stroll. He’s also got a housemate—Arnie—who’s no stranger to the Perfect Pet Contest either. When asked if Arnie might be jealous of Yeti’s win, Dallas was quick to say they’ll share the spotlight.

A community effort: Salem BBQ raising funds for park

The Salem Home Foundation and the Ladies’ Auxiliary hosted their annual Spring Fundraiser BBQ Wednesday, May 28th to raise funds to improve Salem Park. Karin Oliveira, CEO of Salem Home and executive director of the Salem Foundation, notes that the fundraiser would not only pay for the concrete sidewalk of the park, but also other features for the residents of Salem Home and the community to use. “We like to see the community coming out.” Oliveira shared.
