With a federal election on the horizon, the agriculture sector is hoping to see some commitments from the federal parties as they campaign for seats in parliament. The Canadian Federation of Agriculture released its priorities, breaking those down into three categories: competitiveness, resiliency, and rules-based trade.

Terriers claim first series lead against Pistons with victory on the road
The Portage Terriers won a penalty filled affair 4-1 on Tuesday night over the host Steinbach Pistons. The Terriers went 2/8 on the power play and were a perfect 1-1 on the penalty kill.
The Terriers have scored first in every game of the series so far and game three was no different. Nolan Nenow tipped in a goal in the first four minutes while driving to the net on the power play. Portage had two more power plays in the first period but couldn’t score again. 1-0 Terriers after one.
Winnipeg police to give update on investigation into killing of Buffalo Woman
Winnipeg police are to provide an update today on an investigation into the death of an unidentified woman who was slain by convicted serial killer Jeremy Skibicki.
Police have provided few details about the young Indigenous victim, who was given the name Buffalo Woman by a group of Indigenous grandmothers.
Skibicki's murder trial heard he met the woman sometime in March 2022 outside a homeless shelter and brought her back to his place before killing her.

Liberals and Conservatives taking their federal election campaigns to Quebec
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Liberal Leader Mark Carney are shifting their campaigns to Quebec.
Poilievre, who held a rally in Hamilton on Tuesday night with an estimated crowd of about 4,500 people, is expected at a news conference in Montmagny, Que., around noon and at a rally in Quebec City in the evening.
Carney, who spent the first few days of the campaign in Atlantic Canada, will be in Ontario today, scheduled for an announcement and a facility tour in Windsor, a facility tour in London and a rally in Kitchener.
Portage Clinic sees improvements in 2025
There have been new changes at the Portage Clinic, and Executive Director Brenda Martinussen says the future of care in the Central Plains looks bright.
Clinic services are many, including a UVB booth for skin conditions, allergy testing, penicillin desensitization, EKG/ECGs, spirometry, and 24-hour blood pressure testing. Available procedures include vasectomies, toenail and wart removal, birth control implants, colposcopies, and epidural steroid injections.

Donations open for Portage cenotaph expansion project
The Portage la Prairie Legion, Branch 65, is moving forward with plans to expand the cenotaph at Veterans Memorial Park, located downtown on Saskatchewan Avenue.
Bob Oldford, service officer for the Legion, has been leading the initiative. The branch recently appealed to the City of Portage la Prairie for approval in expanding the memorial, which honours local veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Whiteout forecasted after Winnipeg Jets clinch playoff spot
The Winnipeg Jets have clinched a spot in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs after defeating the Washington Capitals 3-2 Tuesday evening.
Nikolaj Ehlers scored the game-winning goal. Mason Appleton and Josh Morrissey also scored for the Jets, who played in front of a sold-out crowd at Canada Life Centre.
Morrissey scored the first goal of the game 6:50 into the first period, bringing the game to a score of 1-0.
