High-risk offender released into Calgary under strict monitoring
Calgary police are warning the public about the release of a high-risk offender now residing in the city.
Corey Manyshots has completed a federal sentence for kidnapping, sexual assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and uttering threats.
The 36-year-old will be closely monitored by the Calgary Police Service High Risk Offender Program and is subject to court-ordered conditions, including electronic monitoring.
Police say the warning is being issued in the interest of public safety and to allow residents to take appropriate precautions.
Owen Grassick gears up for next step in his WHL Journey
Cochrane’s Owen Grassick's dream came true after being selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors in yesterday’s WHL Prospects Draft.
The 6-foot-1, 155-pound forward was taken 80th overall in the fourth round of the draft, which began with the first round on May 7.
He was having lunch in his sister's car at school when he refreshed his phone to discover his selection. He got a call a bit later from a Warriors' scout.
“Just pure excitement,” said Grassick. “I’ve wanted to go to Moose Jaw for so many years now. When I found my name beside their logo, I was just ecstatic.”
Alberta surpasses 300 measles cases as doctors warn of exponential increases
More than 300 people in Alberta have fallen ill from measles since March and a group of doctors are warning the virus could grow exponentially in the coming weeks.
The Alberta government is reporting 16 new measles cases to bring the province's total count to 313.
The rising number has prompted the association representing Alberta doctors to warn of an outbreak that could quickly reach the thousands.
