Eric Loeppky's mom says it's surreal to watch her son play at Paris Olympics

A mother from Steinbach calls it surreal to be watching her son play volleyball at the Olympics in Paris. 

Sandi Loeppky is there, supporting her son Eric and the rest of Canada's men's volleyball team. The Canadians have dropped their first two matches, losing to Slovenia and France. The Canadians next see action on Saturday when they take on Serbia.

In spite of the two losses, Loeppky says she is so happy for her son and proud of what he is accomplishing.

Woman with lengthy list of charges wanted by RCMP in southern Manitoba

RCMP in southern Manitoba are seeking information on the whereabouts of Jolene Obara.

The 48-year-old is wanted by St. Pierre RCMP, as well as Morris/ Emerson RCMP. 

Police say she is wanted for multiple offences, including theft, forgery, fraud and break and enter. 

Jolene Obara stands 5'3" tall and weighs 160 pounds. She has long brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on where she might be is asked to contact Morris RCMP at 204-746-6355.

Southbound Highway 75 opens to traffic

A long stretch of southbound Highway 75 has reopened to traffic. Vehicles are once again using the southbound lanes from Provincial Road (PR) 305 at Ste. Agathe to the PR 205 intersection, east of Rosenort. 

In May of last year, Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI) began work on a 24.5-kilometre-long concrete reconstruction project of the southbound lanes. There is still a six-kilometre long section of the project, just north of Morris, that is being completed this summer.

Falk calls it a very good spring sitting for Conservatives

The Member of Parliament for Provencher says from a Conservative perspective, they have just wrapped up a very good sitting.

Ted Falk says they were able to make lots of progress. He notes their leader Pierre Poilievre has struck the right tone and appears to be focused on the same issues that Canadians, including residents of Provencher, are concerned about. 

Falk says those issues include axing the tax, building homes, fixing the budget and stopping crime. 

Police on lookout for high risk sex offender

Police are asking the public to be on the lookout for a high risk sex offender who is currently evading authorities in our province. 

Clay Byron Starr, also known as Chad Crate, Clayton Starr, Richard Starr, Clay Richard, and Byron Richard, is wanted for breaching conditions imposed upon him when he was released from federal custody on June 20, 2024.

Bothwell Cheese resumes production following early June fire

Production has resumed at Bothwell Cheese in New Bothwell. 

The plant was shut down following a serious fire on the morning of June 1. Robin Redstone is Senior Communications Manager at Gay Lea Foods. She explains that the official cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, they know that the fire started in what is referred to as a UFRO room, which is the part of the plant that is responsible for filtering out the whey; a by-product of the cheese-making process. 

RCMP warn motorists of scammers selling fake jewelry on roadsides

RCMP would like to warn the public of a jewelry scam that appears to be picking up steam again in southern Manitoba.

Community Constable Dennis Redikop says they are hearing reports of a vehicle parked on the side of the road, with a motorist flagging down passersby. The suspect claims to have car problems and is selling jewelry to make some cash. Redikop says this is a scam.
