Manitoba Premier offers message he hopes will nourish the spirit
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew is sharing an experience he had during a recent visit to the Prairie Green Landfill in hopes of offering a new perspective on the search currently underway at the facility, located northwest of Winnipeg, for the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran, the missing women believed to be buried there.
Accompanied by the women's families, who also brought with them their spiritual supports, one of which was a Christian pastor, Kinew says the moment happened on their way back down the hill.
Adventurous rescue: volunteers save injured Mallard duck from Buffalo Creek Nature Pond
Altona's Buffalo Creek Nature Pond was the scene of a harrowing rescue Wednesday as volunteers with Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, located in Île-des-Chênes, set out to retrieve an injured Mallard duck from the water.
"It would have been a very long, slow, painful death."
The duck had been living there all summer and, with the help of locals, rehab centre officials had been monitoring its situation.
Morden police issue 18 speeding tickets in just 7 days
A driver was ticketed $822 and issued a Serious Offense notice this past week after police caught them doing 159 km/h in a 100 km/h zone heading east on Highway 3 out of Morden.
This was just one of 18 speeding tickets doled out by Morden police officers October 15th-21st.
Also highlighted in the department's latest regular report to the public; 9 tickets to drivers not wearing their seatbelts, and 5 tickets for disobeying a traffic control device, namely a stop sign.
Altona evaluates potential compost service changes; but keep composting!
Altona residents are being encouraged to continue their composting habits as Council works through potential changes with the current pick up service provider.
The Town's contract with Green Opportunities is set to end on January 31st, but Mayor Harv Schroeder is assuring the community that Council is actively seeking viable alternatives in order to guarantee the ongoing service.
Additionally, officials say they do not anticipate any interruptions to compost collection for residents in the foreseeable future.

"We're listening to a lot of those concerns that are being brought forward," said Premier Kinew. "All over rural Manitoba, I think we're all familiar with business owners and property owners that are dealing with crime."
Not only did the Premier acknowledge this concern but says it's something his government is taking action on.
Man charged following assault on Morden police officer
A 29-year-old man has been charged after an altercation with Morden police officers early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 3:30 a.m., officers got a 9-1-1 call and say they could hear yelling in the background before the caller hung up.
When they arrived at the scene, officers spoke with a man who said all was well, however, police say he was shirtless and had blood on him. That's when another man came to the door and, according to officers, took a fighting stance with closed fists and began speaking aggressively to them.

Officials with the Municipality of Rhineland hope they've rectified a problem-area along Road 8, just northwest of Altona.
A section of the road has been raised about one meter in an effort to keep a handful of homes from becoming isolated when levels on the nearby Buffalo Creek get high.
Morden police investigate two incidents of vandalism
Police officers in Morden are investigating after two City-owned buildings were vandalized last week.
Not many details are known at this time, other than the symbols spray painted on each building were the same.
One of the buildings is located downtown and the other was a public washroom.
Province responds to municipalities with proposed key changes to Planning Act
Manitoba Premier, Wab Kinew, says his government has taken action to get new homes built more quickly.
This week, the Province introduced amendments to the Planning Act and the City of Winnipeg Charter Act that would reduce challenges it says are currently associated with the public appeals process for zoning changes.
