Fourth grader behind rock solid business at Leader Farmer's Market

The Leader Farmers' Market is delighted to host a very young entrepreneur who is not to be taken for granite.

Reese McCallum is an eight-year-old girl from Liebenthal Saskatchewan, who has started making and selling rock creations. Her store is called Little Chick Emporium, of which she is the owner-operator.

Trucks hit the muck at Lancer Chokecherry Fest

Lancer hosted its 51st annual Chokecherry Festival on Saturday and the crowds were far from disappointed.

The event featured a parade, a plane show-and-shine, a mud-bogging competition, and so much more. Total attendance in the morning was over 400 for the pancake breakfast, which peaked later at over 1,200 spectators attending the mud-bogging.

Bombastic action at Beechy Western Days

The Small town of Beechy Saskatchewan saw its population skyrocket over the weekend, as the town’s annual festival created a huge buzz and made many good memories.

Beechy Western Days was able to pack all the excitement of a rodeo, a rowdy race of unusual proportions, and the classic fun of a carnival into one weekend.

The 54th annual three-day CCA Rodeo commenced on Friday, and as it was co-approved with Bull Riders Canada (BRC), members got to compete without being registered with the CCA. This created a full roster of cowboys and cowgirls across most events.

Water restriction issued in Leader

A small town is strongly feeling the effects of the recent drought, having just issued a water restriction that affects residents and nearby farms alike.

The Town of Leader released a statement outlining some temporary restrictions to ensure that water is not being wasted but allows people to use it in moderation. This is due to the current low levels and forecast of low volume flow rates of the town’s main water source, the South Saskatchewan River. The restrictions will be reviewed at the next regular council meeting on September 5.

Meet our Southwest Explorer!

Hello southwestern Saskatchewan, my name is Alex Kozroski, the Southwest Explorer for the summer of 2023.

First of all, I’d like to say that it is a dream come true to be a part of Golden West’s Swift Current team, and all of my co-workers and business partners have been incredibly welcoming.

This experience so far has been exactly what I needed, not only to kickstart my career in media but also to have fun in a fast-paced work environment.

Mortlach's Berry Festival reaches record attendance

The population of Mortlach Saskatchewan has briefly skyrocketed, as one of the biggest events in the prairies took over most of the town.

The 14th annual Saskatoon Berry Festival transpired over the weekend, and the event was bigger and better than ever.

Prairie Berries Inc. kept the concessions well supplied with a whopping 550 Saskatoon Berry pies. Some of these were consumed faster than others, thanks to a staple event since the festival’s conception, the pie-eating contest.
