Dyck shuts door as Broncos down Hurricanes
On the evening where the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024 was announced, it was a “Hall of Fame” effort from the Swift Current Broncos as they defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-0 on Wednesday evening.
“It was probably one of our best 60-minute efforts all year,” said Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby. “Guys came out ready to play, they didn’t let off the gas.”
Josh Filmon bookended the scoring in the hockey game, while Connor Gabriel and Connor Hvidston scored in the first as the Broncos led 3-0 after one period.
Geekie scores twice in Broncos overtime loss to Blades
The Swift Current Broncos first game in eight days ended with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Saskatoon Blades on Sunday afternoon at the SaskTel Centre.
Conor Geekie scored twice, the games opening marker just over eight minutes into the game, and the tying goal with just over five minutes to play in the third.
The Blades responded to Geekies first goal with just minutes to play in the second on the powerplay, while Fraser Minten gave the Blades a lead late in the second period for the first time in the game.
Late penalties thwart Broncos comeback against Warriors
The back half of a home and home set on Saturday night between the Swift Current Broncos and Moose Jaw Warriors went to the Warriors by a 4-3 score.
It was a game that somewhat mirrored the night prior in the sense that the Broncos erased a 3-0 Warrior lead on Saturday, just one night after Moose Jaw erased a 3-1 Bronco lead en-route to a 5-3 win. However, while the Broncos scored three unanswered in the second period, they were unable to get the next one.
Ward scores twice in return, Broncos fall to Warriors
The Swift Current Broncos fell 5-3 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night at the InnovationPlex in the first half of a home and home set.
The Broncos got off to a fantastic start early as Mat Ward made his return for a lengthy injury absence. He scored just 41 seconds into the game as the Broncos took a 1-0 lead.
It was a back and forth first period that saw each team earn 15 shots on goal. The Warriors were able to capitalize late in the period as Jagger Firkus notched his first of three goals on the night to tie the game.
Broncos' win streak snapped by Tigers
The Swift Current Broncos win streak ended at four games on Tuesday night after a 5-2 loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers at Co-op Place.
Things started alright for the Broncos, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first, thanks to goals from Dawson Gerwing and Clarke Caswell. However, with only 21 shots on goal in the game, the offence struggled for the Broncos who were unable to beat Zach Zahara the rest of the way.
Six unanswered goals lift Broncos over Wheat Kings
The Swift Current Broncos extended their win streak to four games on Friday night as they defeated the Wheat Kings 7-3 in Brandon.
The Broncos were down 2-1 after one period with the only goal coming from Brady Birnie, and they were outshot 12-6 by the Wheat Kings who got goals from Roger McQueen and Brett Hyland.
Hayden Wheddon extended Brandon’s lead to 3-1 early in the second period, but even at that point, Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said he didn’t feel like his team was playing all that bad.
Broncos Acquire Galloway from Hitmen, Trade Laventure to Royals
The Swift Current Broncos announced today that they have acquired 2003-born defenceman Tyson Galloway from the Calgary Hitmen, in exchange for a 2025 second-round draft pick and a 2025 third-round draft pick.
“Tyson moves well for a big body, defends hard, and is great on the penalty kill,” said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. “He is a character kid that will provide us with some leadership and experience.”
Broncos great again in win over Americans
The Swift Current Broncos earned a 6-2 win over the Tri-City Americans on Tuesday night to extend their winning streak to three games.
It was the third straight home game for the Broncos who scored six or more goals in all three games.
The Broncos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period in this one as Rylan Gould and Conor Geekie scored with Gould’s coming on the powerplay. Geekies was his 21st of the year, and first as a Bronco.
Broncos get by Warriors thanks to late Filmon goal
Another high scoring game for the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday night as they squeaked by the Moose Jaw Warriors 7-6.
A 6-1 lead for the Broncos evaporated in the third period, but the home team was able to get the last laugh to move to within two points of the Warriors.
“Happy with the two points,” said Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen. “And I’m happy with the first two periods and how we were able to play.”
Huge third period lifts Broncos over Chiefs
The Swift Current Broncos got four third period goals as they doubled up the Spokane Chiefs 8-4 at the InnovationPlex.
Fans were barely in their seats when things started rough for the Broncos as Berkly Catton and Cole Wadsworth scored 44 seconds into the game to make it 2-0 early for Spokane. The Broncos were outshot 14-7 in the first, but they did get goals from Tyson Laventure and Josh Filmon got the Broncos back to even in the first period including Filmon’s coming on the powerplay.
