Late penalties hurt Broncos in loss to Hurricanes
The Swift Current Broncos dropped their first game of the 2024 portion of their schedule on Wednesday night in Lethbridge, falling 6-3 to the Hurricanes.
While there was no score in the first, the Broncos had some great chances on Harrison Meneghin, but couldn’t get one to go as they outshot the Hurricanes 13-10 but played to a 0-0 score.
Broncos Hire Former Captain Zack Smith as New Assistant Coach
The Swift Current Broncos announced on Wednesday that they have hired Zack Smith as an Assistant Coach with the club.
“We are very excited to add Zack to our staff,” said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. “Zack cares about this organization a great deal and brings a ton of playing experience for our players to draw from. He is a quality person, and we look forward to having him here for the rest of the season.”
Broncos fall to Hitmen in final game before Christmas break
The Swift Current Broncos dropped their final game ahead of the Christmas break on Sunday afternoon 7-4 to the Calgary Hitmen.
Things started alright for the Broncos, scoring first thanks to Maddix McCagherty’s fourth of the season. However, the party ended quick as the Hitmen scored three times within 90 seconds in the first to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Oliver Tulk, Sean Tschigerl, and Wyatt Pisarczyk all scored for Calgary in that stretch. That chased Broncos netminder Joey Rocha after just over five minutes and five shots.
Broncos double up Oil Kings in Edmonton
The Swift Current Broncos earned a 6-3 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night in Edmonton.
The win was the first of this Alberta swing for the Broncos who improve to 16-13-1-2 on the season.
Late powerplay goal sinks Broncos in loss to Rebels
The Swift Current Broncos opened their three game Alberta road swing with a 3-2 loss to the Red Deer Rebels on Thursday night.
It was a back-and-forth game with neither team holding more than a one goal lead at any point in the contest.
Goals didn’t come until the second period when Kai Uchacz scored on the powerplay for Red Deer to make it 1-0, but a few minutes later, it was Rylan Gould who responded for the Broncos and tie things up after two periods.
Mistelbacher magic leads Broncos to win over Hurricanes
The Swift Current Broncos earned a big 3-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Saturday night, splitting the home and home set with their Central Division rivals.
It wasn’t as high of an event game as the previous 5-3 game indicated, as the teams only combined for 46 shots in the hockey game.
Penalties hurt Broncos in loss to Hurricanes
The Swift Current Broncos point streak ends at four games after a 5-3 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night in Lethbridge.
The Broncos penalty kill struggled in the hockey game as they gave up goals on four of five Hurricane powerplays. Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said they need to be better down a man.
“We were the better team five-on-five, we generated more, had more chances,” McEwen said. “Take too many penalties and we can’t kill a penalty.”
Birnie plays hero as Broncos win wild affair in Calgary
Another high scoring, and back and forth game for the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night as they defeated the Calgary Hitmen 6-5 at the Saddledome.
It didn’t start ideally for the Broncos, giving up the first two goals of the hockey game as Chase Valliant and Carter Yakemchuk got the Hitmen on the board.
Broncos fall to Pats in second straight shootout
The Swift Current Broncos finished up a four games in five night stretch on Saturday night and they played a bit more hockey than they would have liked in the game as they fell to the Regina Pats 6-5 in a shootout.
The game came just a night after the Broncos had fallen to the Prince Albert Raiders.
Slough Sharks fall in shootout to Raiders
The Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks fell in a shootout on Friday night to the Prince Albert Raiders in what was an exciting affair at the InnovationPlex.
The Slough Sharks opened the scoring in the game just over a minute in as a Connor Hvidston sharp angle shot found its way past Chase Coward. That’s how it stood until early in the second as the Raiders continued to pepper the Slough Sharks.
Eric Johnston and Terrell Goldsmith scored in the second to give Prince Albert their first lead of the hockey game through two periods.
