Broncos down Warriors in Family Day fight at Innovationplex

The Swift Current Broncos have now won four straight games after a 5-2 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Monday night.

It was a big game in the standings with the teams separated by just six points separating the two clubs, and the Broncos ultimately came out on top. Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby said it was pretty close to a full 60-minute effort for his club.

“The guys were ready to go,” Darby said. “These are the games that the guys want to play. It had a real good playoff feel to it and the guys battled right until the end.”

Broncos sweep home and home with Pats

The Swift Current Broncos have now won three games in a row after a 6-2 win over the Regina Pats, wrapping up their second win in the home and home set.

Just a night removed from a 7-2 win over the Pats, it was somewhat of a similar game in the sense that it was a tightly contested first period, but the Broncos took over with a strong second period to propel them to a victory.

Strong second period propels Broncos over Pats

The Swift Current Broncos earned a 7-2 win over the Regina Pats on Friday night in the first half of a home and home set.

It wasn’t the start the Broncos wanted as they trailed 2-1 after one period of play. Aaron Krestanowich and Same Oremba bookended the period with Pats goals, while Conor Geekie scored for the Broncos on the powerplay. It was Geekie’s 100th goal in his 200th WHL game as well.

While the Broncos didn’t come out of the gates as they would have liked, Assistant Coach Regan Darby said they were able to move forward and play their game afterwards.

Broncos battle Blades till bitter end in Swift Current

The Swift Current Broncos six-game point streak came to end on Saturday night as they fell 3-2 to the Saskatoon Blades.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying though as the Broncos and Blades gave the fans an entertaining affair that didn’t get away from either club at any point.

Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby said that even though the result wasn’t in their favour, there were a lot of positives.

“We were focused. Um I thought we held the play a lot of the game,” he said. “We had a lot of really good looks. Our physical play was there, defended really well.”

Con(n)ors carry load as Broncos defeat Oil Kings

The Swift Current Broncos have now earned a point in six straight games after a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night at the InnovationPlex.

According to Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby, it wasn’t their best performance thorugh the first two periods as they lead 2-1, but were outshot 19-14 through 40 minutes.

“I thought we could have managed Pucks better in the first couple of periods,” Darby said. “A few too many turnovers, you turn pucks over at the blue line. They’re sometimes hard to get back.”

Three for Geekie in Broncos win over Rebels

The Swift Current Broncos continued a five game homestand on Tuesday night with a 4-3 win over the Red Deer Rebels.

Conor Geekie earned his fifth career hat-trick in the win, scoring the game’s opening goal, as well as the game winner, and a goal to restore a Bronco lead in the second. The Arizona Coyotes prospect said he said going back to basics, and his teammates were keys to his success.

“I think I just played a lot simpler,” Geekie said. “I think you just found the soft spots on the ice and trusted my guys to do what they do best.”

#ReidDyckulous: Broncos netminder named WHL Goalie of the Week

What a week it was for Broncos goaltender Reid Dyck, who has been named the WHL’s Goaltender of the Week after a some stellar performances in the Broncos crease.

In three games this past week, Dyck played 142 minutes, going 2-0-1-0 with a 0.85 goals-against average, a .970 save percentage, and two shutouts to help the Broncos earn five of a possible six points this week.

Broncos fall in back-and-forth battle with Wheat Kings

The Swift Current Broncos mini two game winning was snapped on Saturday night, a 6-5 overtime loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

However, it marks the fourth straight game that the Broncos have earned a point.

While the Broncos earned the overtime point in the contest, Assistant Coach Regan Darby said it wasn’t their best performance in recent memory.

Dyck stands tall for second straight shutout over Pats

The Swift Current Broncos put up another goose egg in the goals-against column on Friday night as they defeated the Regina Pats 3-0 on the road.

The victory was the Broncos second consecutive shutout after a 6-0 win on Wednesday over Lethbridge. While the offence didn’t come quite as easy in this one, Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby said it was the man between the pipes, Reid Dyck who was the main reason for another shutout to his credit.
