Kieper earns first win as a Bronco in victory over Tigers
Just one night after a tough 4-0 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors, the Swift Current Broncos earned a big 5-3 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wendesday night at the InnovationPlex.
Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said it was a big difference from Tuesday.
Broncos shutout by Warriors on the road
The Swift Current Broncos fell 4-0 to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Tuesday night as the Broncos opened a stretch of four games in five nights.
Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said it wasn’t a great game all around.
“Just disappointed, we are a team that when we are playing our game, we can beat anybody,” McEwen said. “Every game is important, so definitely not happy with our effort and the way we played tonight.”
Broncos double up Warriors in Moose Jaw
The Swift Current Broncos earned a 6-3 win over the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night in Moose Jaw.
It was a high-octane game throughout as the two teams combined for 92 shots overall as the Broncos outshot the Warriors 48-44 in the game. Broncos Interim Head Coach Taras McEwen said this game was the team’s best sixty-minute effort to this point in the season.
“Just really happy with the guys, and the detail that we played with,” McEwen said. “And when we play the right way consistency, it leads to success.”
Broncos acquire Kieper from Blazers
The Swift Current Broncos announced today that they have acquired 2004-born goalie Matthew Kieper from the Kamloops Blazers for a 2024 third-round WHL Draft Pick, and a 2026 ninth-round WHL Draft Pick.
Kieper (6’2”/195lbs), out of Winnipeg, Man., has played in 68 career WHL games across five seasons with the Regina Pats, and most recently the Kamloops Blazers. He sports a 33-23-3 record and has two shutouts to his credit. Last season with the Blazers, Kieper was 9-1-0-0 with a 2.96 goals-against-average, and a .906 save percentage with one shutout.
Gould sends teddy bears flying, Broncos defeat Pats
The Swift Current Broncos earned a 5-2 win over the Regina Pats on Friday night at the InnovationPlex at Teddy Bear Toss night.
Fans only had to wait about 10 minutes of game time as Rylan Gould whacked home a Brady Birnie shot to send the InnovationPlex into mayhem as the teddy bears came flying down as the Mustangs held a 1-0 lead. A total of 1,065 bears, mitts, and toques were flung onto the ice as part of the goal in support of the Salvation Army, the Jim Pattison Children’s Hosptial and the Children’s Miracle Network.
Shorthanded Broncos fall to Blades
The Swift Current Broncos fell to the Saskatoon Blades by a 5-4 score on Friday night at the InnovationPlex.
With players like Connor Hvidston, and Caleb Wyrostok still out of the lineup, and Mat Ward also missing the game, the Broncos got off to a fantastic start. Tyson Laventure scored just 1:21 into the game, extending his point streak to 12 games. Then, Luke Mistelbacher got his second of the year as the Broncos held a 2-0 after just four minutes and three shots on goal.
Broncos fall to Wild to end hot home stretch
The Swift Current Broncos five-game home winning streak has come to an end after a 5-1 loss to the Wenatchee Wild on Wednesday night at the InnovationPlex.
The Broncos got things off to a good start in this one with a few good chances on Wild goalie Daniel Hauser but couldn’t get one to go. The best chance came about halfway through the first as Josh Filmon was robbed by Hauser’s right pad on a cross-ice play. No more than a few seconds later, the Wild came back the other way and Connor Geekie scored for the Wild to make it 1-0.
Dyck leads Broncos to home victory
The Swift Current Broncos remain red hot on home ice after a 4-1 win over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos got the party started early as Clarke Caswell’s seventh of the year just four minutes into the game. Josh Fluker made it 2-0 Broncos almost six minutes into the game and after giving up a goal just 33 seconds into the game on Friday night against Portland, the Broncos got off on the right foot.
Broncos Assistant Coach Taras McEwen said at least the first 10 minutes or so were very good.
Gould golden as Broncos beat Winterhawks in shootout
The Swift Current Broncos and Portland Winterhawks played an entertaining game on Friday night as the Broncos earned a 4-3 shootout win.
It didn’t look promising early on as Josh Davies scored 33 seconds into the hockey game, biting his former club. However, just four minutes later, Josh Filmon scored on the powerplay to tie the game. Luke Mistelbacher gave Swift Current their first lead of the hockey game late in the first but it only lasted 40 seconds as Josh Zakreski tied it up for Portland.
Broncos win streak ends after loss to Raiders
The Swift Current Broncos win streak ended at three games on Saturday night after a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Prince Albert Raiders.
It was the third game in four nights for the Broncos who just beat the Raiders on Wednesday, but on this night the Broncos fell behind early 3-0 in the first and didn’t get their first shot on goal until late in the frame. Brayden Dube, Niall Crocker, and Hayden Pakkala scored for Prince Albert.
