RCMP searching for stolen car
Treherne RCMP is asking for the public's help regarding a vehicle stolen in Haywood.
Police say on May 24th, they received a call saying someone had stolen a car from a home on Edward Street. The car is a white 2013 Dodge Charger with the license plate KVC 450.
At this time, it's unsure how many people were involved with the crime, nor where they went with the vehicle after the theft.
If anyone has any information about this incident, they are asked to call the Treherne RCMP at 204-723-2024.
RCMP requests public aid regarding stolen vehicle
The Portage la Prairie RCMP is looking to the public regarding a stolen vehicle in MacGregor.
Police say on May 7th, they received a report of the vehicle being taken from the 100 block of Grafton Street overnight.
The vehicle is a 2021 grey Dodge Ram 2500 with the license plate CFP 254. It has a lift kit and a tire on the roof rack.
If anyone has any information regarding the theft of this vehicle, they're asked to call the Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204-857-4445.
RCMP arrest woman after stealing Lexus
Portage la Prairie RCMP has made an arrest in MacGregor following the theft of a Lexus.
Police say on May 7th, around 2:15 p.m., they received a tip of the stolen vehicle at a business in MacGregor, but when officers arrived, the vehicle was gone. Officers then learned that the woman had gone to James Avenue in Sidney, Manitoba.
Once they got to Sidney, they were able to find and arrest the 28-year-old woman from Brandon without incident. The 2021 Lexus NX300 was originally stolen out of Winnipeg.
RCMP make arrest following chase
The Portage la Prairie RCMP has arrested a man on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
RCMP says on April 28th, around 3:30 p.m. an officer was making patrols and noticed a man on Lorne Avenue who had outstanding warrants. He then told 42-year-old Elie Whitford that he was under arrest.
Whitford then fled, but the officer was able to catch him before cuffing him after a struggle.
Whitford is charged with Resist Arrest and three counts of Failing to Comply with Release Order. He also has other charges before the courts.
All categories decrease as RCMP release March crime stats
The Portage la Prairie RCMP has released its crime stats for March of 2022.
According to police, the Manitoba west division, which includes Portage la Prairie has seen a decrease in all main crime categories compared to March of 2021, falling from 4,596 to 3,872.
Common police activities fell nearly 19 per cent, from 569 to 459. Wellness checks, however, did see a slight increase from 67 to 83.
Crimes against the person went down from 381 to 346, with the most notable difference being a 15 per cent decrease in assaults, which went from 232 to 198.
Portage RCMP arrest Lake St Martin man for "Failing to Comply with Breath Demand"
Portage la Prairie RCMP has arrested a 25-year-old man following a possible impaired driving incident in the city.
Last Sunday, Portage RCMP received a report of a potentially impaired driver in the 2200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue West.
Officers located the suspect's vehicle at 9:00 pm, travelling on 1st Street SW and conducted a traffic stop. The officer spoke to the driver, explained the stop, and asked the 25-year-old man from Lake St Martin to provide a breath sample on a Roadside Screening Device.
Flood warning remains in effect for the Red River
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre is continuing to monitor flood levels. The Red River basin has received a basin-wide average of 40 to 50 millimetres (mm) of rainfall over the past 48 hours. Areas of the Interlake and east of Lake Winnipeg received an average of 30 to 50 mm.
Voluntary evacuations happening in R.M. of Dufferin as overland flooding continues
Overland flooding continues in the R.M. of Dufferin, and in its latest update released Sunday afternoon, officials have indicated numerous residents have elected to voluntarily evacuate.
"Please stay where you are unless it is absolutely necessary for you to leave your home," stated the news release to Portage Online. "There are numerous vehicles using the limited accessible roadways to respond to the situation."
PLIP thanking early childhood educators
The week designated to thank early childhood educators in our province continues, and so does the praise they receive.
Mitch Tilk, Program Coordinator with the Portage la Prarie Local Immigration Partnership (PLIP), says that his organization is trying to encourage the community to recognize some of the stars in child care.
"We know that it's a difficult job and oftentimes underappreciated. So, we really want people in the community to recognize and appreciate the work that's going on with early childhood educators in the child care system."
RCMP issue wanted notice for Portage man
The Portage la Prairie RCMP has posted information about a man who has a warrant out for his arrest.
David Mousseau, age 30, is facing charges of Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Failure to Comply with Release Conditions, and several other charges before the courts. He's described as having a medium build, 5'11", 210 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. He also has a distinctive scar on his right cheek.
